What started as relief that RFK Jr. did not go shirtless this time quickly curdled into a creeping suspicion that something was deeply wrong. That the "pull-ups" we were witnessing were not, in fact, real.

🙏 to @caseyjohnston.bsky.social for the sharp, much-needed clarity
RFK Jr. did zero pull-ups at the airport
"They count 20, but the number of actual pull-ups done here is zero."

If their massive payout to Rogen didn’t convince you to leave Spotify, here’s some more data from you about how you screw over artists by using it.
"If everyone who streamed All Hell on Spotify had done so using Tidal instead, we would have received an extra £31,847.38, which would double the amount we made from streaming of the album in this time period. Or if everyone used Apple Music it would have been £12,331 more."

Letterers still don’t get royalties.
My hot comic take is all wfh comic shit should be paid a salary, every other week, like everyone else at the publishing company. I’m tired of hearing about our colleagues crowdfunding funerals and healthcare.

When people pay in cash at shows that money literally buys my groceries. I don’t put it in the bank I just pay cash for all my food, it’s great. Direct action. That 20 bucks you gave me is going straight to winco in a few days and ima turn it into bananas and bagels.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Rascal is the most important source of tabletop news in the hobby. If you can afford to subscribe, I highly recommend you do! My upcoming big video draws HEAVILY on the work of Rascal journalists, and would be much worse without their reporting
At this moment, we have 2430 paid subscribers. Can we get 2500 by the end of 2025? You can subscribe right now for only $1, and support independent tabletop games journalism.
New subscriptions to Rascal News will be rising by $1 in 2026. If you've been waiting to support us, we're currently running a holiday sale where the first two months of our entry tier is only $1/month!

Independent journalism on the cheap? Yippee-Ki-Yay, Anklebiters!

Here's some process stuff for the Belsnickel piece (I share these on my Patreon when I post new figures).

I rarely redo a figure from scratch once I've gotten as far as inks -- usually the pencils tell me when it ain't working -- but this one, I wasn't feeling its first pass.

#COMPANIONSofCHRISTMAS: Belsnickel!

Belsnickel was a hermit in Germany’s large and wild Black Forest, a fur trapper who wanted nothing more than to be left alone, but he lived near the entrance of a cave that children from a nearby village liked to explore. 1/

This is a good article. I've been weary of the Hero's Journey for a long time, for all the reasons she says. Lone heroes are not how we actually create better worlds. And I definitely relate also to having to break with formulas to find a narrative that's true to a character.
Donna Glee Williams looks at "the Hero's Journey" and points out some of its failures for both how we understand fiction and how we understand the real world...
