Hello there, my name is Darren Calvert and I'm a design teacher and freelance illustrator from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I try to focus on art and things I like but occasionally go off on a bit of a rant.

Marker art! Top row are a smiling beholder and an ahthropomorphic mushroom guy playing a lute. Bottom row are a robot panda recharging at a bamboo pole charging station and a hybrid bunny/shark about to bite a carrot underwater. Board games! Top row are Damage Control from WizKids and All Hands On Deck! from Salamander Games. Bottom row are Overboss and Overboss Duel from Brotherwise Games. Illustration! Top row are a beaver relaxing at home reading a book and a series of Rogue One portraits done in an old school RPG style. Bottom row are a pen and ink drawing of a crab and "Final Sesame" with a Muppet Cloud Strife riding a Big Bird chocobo. Beer can labels! Top row are Wild Barry Strawberry Ale with a sort of "Green Man" with strawberries growing in his beard/hair and Snowplow Luau Tropical Blonde Ale with snow tiki statues and pineapples. Bottom row are Golden Ticket Vietnamese Coffee Stout with a gold label and Vietnamese patterns and Saskatoon Ale Fruited Beer with pen and ink/watercolour drawings of Saskatoon berries growing on branches (think a slightly smaller, slightly more tart blueberry).

I decided to replay the first Spider-Man game on PS5 before starting the second. Still fun although I could do without the stealth sections as MJ/Miles.
A marker drawing of Spider-Man in his video game costume in a small Moleskine sketchbook. To the right are two Copic markers and red and blue coloured pencils.

Picking goons off in the hideout missions is fun though. I had a string of them hanging from a beam like Christmas lights last night.

Yeah, sometimes I'm in the mood for something more stealthy/tactical but rarely in the middle of something more action-y.

I'm enjoying finally having a PS5 but it's kind of funny how few "PS5 exclusive" must-play games there are after 5 years.

Part of it is that it feels so "Go here, press triangle, go here, press triangle". There's an element of timing to it but not much choice.

I think after I finish up The City That Never Sleeps' story I'm going to replay Alan Wake/play Alan Wake 2.

Also Screwball can go to hell. I'm not subjecting myself to those missions this time.

"All America did was impose tariffs and threaten their sovereignty and now they're being mean to us for no reason."

Just switched from walking around the house in sandals to walking around the house in slippers. Fall is officially here.

Yeah, they talk about "bruised feelings" over Trump threatening our sovereignty. Fuck off.
dmacalvert.bsky.social
They do put the blame for this on Trump's policies but it seems like a weird framing.

You know who else was an "innocent bystander" in this situation? ALL OF CANADA.
dmacalvert.bsky.social
The people who run those "innocent bystander" businesses definitely didn't vote for Trump, right?

Took me 5 years to get around to picking up a PS5 so I guess I'll see them in 2032
