Johnnycakes fed settlers, soldiers, enslaved people, and whole regions…then somehow became a forgotten dish in American history. I wrote about their long, unremarkable journey and included my modern interpretation...

The Unremarkable Journey of a Corn Cake
A reflective look at Johnnycakes... how this humble corn cake sustained generations, adapted across regions, and quietly disappeared from American cookbooks and memory.

This really needs emphasizing. The entirety of the UK media ecosystem is utterly fixated on a 100% fabricated "crisis".
Net migration has fallen again to 204,000, the lowest level since 2021 and is forecast to continue falling over the coming years.

Not that you would know it from the endless coverage of Britain's supposed "immigration crisis"

This is an unspooling thread of total joy. A slug of forgotten comedy history.

The brilliant female clowns of silent cinema. This might be the most ALIVE thing you’ll see all day.
Since we are once again dealing with "the only silent era comedians of note were men" I feel I need to stand up for the ladies.

It's good they removed the two child benefit cap.

It is bad to not examine or analyse why they removed the whip from so many MPs for wanting this last year.

It is either genuinely dense or thoroughly evil to pretend that never happened and labour has always wanted to remove it.

I tried to have a normal day today sitting at a desk, or on the sofa. Cried at The Phantom Menace (look, R2D2 was very brave, ok?) and then sent a personal message offering a large bag of excess gochugaru to a serious international IT Slack channel by mistake

I’m really disappointed that I can’t spoil A. with an excessive Thanksgiving meal this year as usual. I’m too weak & tired and I don’t even have the ingredients. Not sure if I’ll even manage Christmas. Secretly planning to do it all in Spring maybe

Good morning, while everyone is waiting for the budget to be announced it’s a good time to say that immigration is a source of prosperity for the UK and painting Britain as a hostile state is sabotaging the country. Thanks!
