The diplomatic "achievement" of the ceasefire was to recalibrate the tempo of the genocide sufficiently to get it off the front pages and the news bulletins, thus alleviating the political pressure on Israel's western accomplices.

The NGO’s chief says last month’s ceasefire ‘risks creating a dangerous illusion that life in Gaza is returning to normal’

Ahead of launching a war on Venezuela, the US would like to announce that no one in Venezuela should help US forces, it'd be stupid to do so, the US will denigrate you and screw you over no matter how much you help, and blame you if even one Venezuelan who also helped the US ever does something bad.

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Do you think that Nobel Peace Prize aspirations are really because Swedish sensation Robyn has performed multiple times at the ceremony and they're banking on the new album?

Noah Fence, but when I see Washington state commission a DC think-tank over literally any local org to write a study it drives me insane, even when the study is good.

Not that I know what this means but I'm coming to terms with the fact that half my childhood study/drive/zone out music that goes on my heavy nostalgia playlists is Folsom darkroom-coded.

Every once in a while I remember my cat has no noise-based fears and will kind of vibe with things most other animals hate.

Anyways I think we just found a new shedding season hack after she decided to play with the hose a little bit while I vacuumed under the couch.

My earnest answer: gender is fundamental to how most people categorize the world around them.

So the more transphobes insist their world is a clear, strict binary, the more they have to face the reality that it’s not. And it terrifies them that that it’s not as clear as they want it to be.
Why is transphobia the default state for so many arseholes?

It has been long enough since getting a degree in biochemistry that I just called NADH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers Party), and everyone knows that's entirely wrong because the real Nazi molecule is Pb(C2H5)4 (it makes the bad shape).

Why is a Biblical commentary the most aesthetic volume I own?

Yep, the 10,000 limit on U Visas is so patently absurd. There are people who will have their application for a U Visa approved this year who won't get their visa until the 2040s.
it's so perverse to have visa number limits on humanitarian protections like these

"oh sorry, you're already in the US but you can't get protection because of the arbitrary magical number a senate intern dreamt up as being applicable one day and suggested"

U visas, Ts, SIJS, it's so evil

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

Government should do things.

"Things" includes actually taking white collar crime and sexual predation seriously.
something I've been thinking about if/when we retake power is we're really going to need to shock & awe the elites with accountability. hit em hard and fast. gotta break the entire system and don't give it time to regroup.
Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

Not only was the Kendzior ban the wrong move, but the punishment is so late that nothing @safety.bsky.app does can really be seen to block abuse.

If someone were brigaded off this site, it would take more than a month to start dealing with them. Ineffective and useless.

Bad policy design. Federal pensions I believe base payments on your five highest years of pay. NYC has set up the worst incentives it can to stop runaway police budgets.
NYC cops retire after 20 yrs at 50% salary. Pension am't calculated on final yr.

Say a boss makes $150k with lots of OT at protests, he makes $230k. Retire now? Pension = $115k.

2026, under ZM, OT goes away, income = $170k. Retire next year? Pension = $85k.

He must retire after highest year. Now.
"Hundreds of New York City police officers are ready to leave the force in the wake of Zohran Mamdani’s (D.) election victory, with some openly weeping after the cop-hating socialist seized the city’s mayoralty earlier this month"
