I made the mistake of delving into a thread about genAI over on r/Ireland.

Couldn't help but lay into someone doing the "artists are gatekeepers" shite.
Comment from me over on Reddit which reads: "Or indeed gatekeeping the field of creatives and saying only trained professionals can be used to create images, here is a tool that allows others to create media to do a job." Nah, get out of here with that "artists are being gatekeepers" shite. I see that nonsense being brought up time and time again. Let me put it this way: I would love to create music, but I know I would be terrible at it, as I don't have the proper practice or skillset, at least starting out. Do I suddenly think I should just have genAI do it for me? No. A big part of the joy of the creative process is the process itself. If you take that away to just type in a prompt, and have something farted out for you, then where is the pleasure in that? Art is far, far more than the final result. "Are those trained creatives going to commit to using zero AI and zero AI tools or any product using AI...." Speaking as one myself: I mean, yeah...? It's incredibly easy to do art and not have to use genAI. In fact, it would only get in my way, and slow down my process.

I know I'm always hard on myself for being like "you're not making enough progress" but the truth is I'm capable of making big steps, they're just fewer, so maybe all is not bad.

Made the decision to "reset" my project, in terms of wrapping up my to do list and putting unfinished back 2 backlog.

How do devs write their design documents? Especially the solo ones? What do you put in? I can literally write out the entire logic/scripting for it but me trying to actually put it into a document? God forbid.

You know what stands out to me in terms of games and gaming trends? Lack of modability, I grew up, for the most part, around games like Sims, Command and Conquer, Neverwinter Nights, Doom etc, and they all had SDKs used to create custom content, but feel like apart from BG3 those don't exist as much
