I so appreciate this! As a docent in historic homes, I stress to visitors unseen objects like sunglasses, which were rarely included in portraiture.

"Social skills" has always been such a loaded term for me, because of the way people equated it with masking and tried to impose that on me. At one point, I said f$#k "social skills" and became someone very nasty. I've been unlearning that and now trying to relearn neuroaffirning social skills.

This is too real. Not even because I don't want to inconvenience someone else, but because I don't want to have to engage in small talk with whomever agrees to help. At this point, I have become very dismissive avoidant.

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.
