OOF. For Cyril, Daumantas' death would probably set him on a far different path (spoiler, Daumantas will be fine!) Cyril's goal is to live a more peaceful life, and losing his lover would make him drop that goal.
Rudolph would have to lose his will to live entirely.

My high fantasy has a host of feast days to celebrate the lives of the various saints. The biggest in Cyril's home country is the feast of Saint Vodomor, during which people share early summer harvests and participate in various sports and showcase acts of physical agility.

One of my personal pet peeves about a LOT of urban fantasy media is that it just assumes Abrahamic cosmology is correct. I simply choose not to say, and in a way, imply that any and all things are a degree of correct- not 'corrupted' or somehow evil, just a natural part of our world.

Because it's an urban fantasy, people still believe their respective religions concepts of the afterlife. For vampires who've stood in the space between Life and Death, there's a space between the two where souls pass through a portal to whatever lies beyond. The great hereafter remains a mystery.

Build->construction

No one could duplicate the magic, concrete and steel construction methods used by this old civilization. Even with the scars of war and neglect, the elegant building long outlived its former masters.
