An Alaskan through the looking glass, witnessing with unease impossible things I believed before breakfast coming true.

In search of terra firma, but what are destinations other than notional termini, shrinking the expanse of change between multiple points A and B to bearable weight? The odyssey matters. Might the compass be faulty, assuming a compass ever existed…

Many of those frustrated by the paywall aren't trying to demand unpaid labor or of the belief that journalists shouldn't be paid. They're upset by how capitalism makes it so access only belongs to those who can afford it, and people can increasingly not afford monthly subscriptions.

Someone brought a rave cave tent to the Solstice party! Low single digit temps and a snow floor. This IS the way to disco. #Alaskasky

Juneauites - our friend just shared that a friend of theirs had been walking their dog just north of the ND roundabout when someone fired a pellet gun at the dog. Dog is ok. Had a cold weather jacket on. Was reported to JPD. Vehicle was a black ford. Be safe out there.

How is what is happening in the US today between corporations and employees not a modern day version of The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. Different century. Same themes.

These are the last words of the American president who challenged us to go to the Moon. John F. Kennedy was murdered on November 22, 1963. This is the conclusion of the speech he had planned to deliver that evening.

Tell me we live in ridiculous times without telling me.
The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground.

"That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks.

"It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies.

Fentanyl and coke are the new “weapons of mass destruction” lie. It’s Iraq all over again, folks. It’s always about controlling the oil.

Pope Leo almost makes me want to fall off the recovering Catholic bandwagon. Almost. He’s a moral voice of reason in touch with current events and needs a bigger spotlight.
Pope Leo: Those “who in commerce engage in usurious and mercantile practices that cause hunger and death among their brothers and sisters in humanity, create ‘structures of sin’ and carry ‘grave responsibility.’” www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news...

Ask which corporation, which politician, which individual benefits from the fear, the hate and the division along cultural and racial lines now enveloping communities. Shine the light on those that stand to benefit. They are what is broken in this country.

Long exhale. I consider myself agnostic these days yet a certain book had a huge impact on my moral compass. I continue 2b flummoxed by the absolutely not insubstantial gap between human action &professions of adherence to this same book by a certain group of high profile people. It hurts my heart.
Sunday Homily - "On Lazarus and the Nameless Rich Man"
The parable serves as a stark warning to us against a life of self-serving greed, indifference, and insensitivity to the needs of others. The time to care for the marginalized in is now, not in the afterlife.

Maybe some people are telling the truth. Maybe some are not. With omnipresent gaslighting from so many directions asking everyone to decide what is real/unreal for themselves, no wonder we are anxious, tense, frazzled, skeptical. Longing for simple times - before the advent of “alternative facts”.

Appreciate this antithesis to being online where the challenge of knowing what is real/not real is emotionally and cognitively exhausting.
Our present & future is going to be defined by “what is real”
