You know who else removed books about topics or by authors they didn’t like? Nazis.
1. In Tennessee, public libraries have closed for up to a week to facilitate a Trump-inspired book purge.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett (R) has ordered most of the state's public librarians to remove children's books with LGBTQ characters or themes.

If you were to count the items we’ve intentionally brought into our home, dirt for plants would be number one, grains of rice two, and books three. I still maintain more than half of the cables are not obsolete, though I wouldn’t bet much on it.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

My name is Charlie Brown. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
No, no, no, no, no, Charlie Brown. Both you and Jennifer turn out fine. It's your kids, Charlie Brown. Something’s gotta be done about your kids!
I like you, Charlie Brown. That is why I will kill you last.

Not to mention the nepotism alone would’ve sunk anyone who had a shred of shame.
Pretty remarkable that Trump has installed someone on the Saudi dole — Jared Kushner collects millions in fees from the Saudis every year — in a key role for America's most sensitive and consequential foreign policy negotiations (Gaza, Ukraine), and it is largely TREATED AS A NON-STORY

It's clear now that what we really meant by "Recession" & "Suffering From Inflation" in 2022-24 was "folks liked the large income spike in 2020-21 & wanted more stimulus checks & welfare spending like what came with the ARP, perhaps permanently," but we are clearly not ready for <that> discussion.

An old guy was outside the Albertson’s I just went to trying to get people to sign a petition to “protect Proposition 13”. I did not sign. As far as I understand, it’s a significant part of why homes in CA cost so much.

If they think they can get away with this shit with A-listers, imagine what they’ll do with the rest of us.
This is dirty as hell. In the Age of "AI," we've all gotta crank up our scrutiny of our contacts Extra high, even for non-"AI" fuckery.

Imagine you are in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies. There is a spray you can use to ward off zombies. It works well, but is short-acting.

Someone made a new spray that is more long-acting. You want to test it out to see the difference.

Excellent epidemiology work here, importantly complete with appropriate caveats. The kind of work that our government is INTENDED to do but won’t because of asinine politics and myopic financial opinions.
1/ Today, ProPublica is running a piece I've been working on for a bit. It's about what happened with a devastating wave of bird flu earlier this year, as egg prices hit record highs.

And it's a story that illuminates the ways the U.S. is failing to control what could become the next pandemic. 🧵

Trump grumbled about a new NFL kickoff rule, and this was a veteran special teams coach's response

Trump genuinely has no idea how anything works (outside of rape and real estate fraud)

it's historic criminal malpractice that U.S. journalism didn't communicate that loudly for the last decade

Shades of Harry Potter being banned. It’s actually what prompted me to read what I previously assumed was just for kids.

Granted, it turned out the creator there was a horrible person who didn’t understand the message from her own work, but that’s beside the point.

No doubt Bezos is certain that yacht ownership is a better qualification for public office than lack of car ownership. The 99% of us of course would be better served by someone who actually would personally benefit from improved public transit.
"She does not own a car." In a way, this is actually quite funny, but mostly, the people who write this stuff would go apoplectic if anyone judged their life the way they judged other people's.
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.
