I really wish we could take some of the negative valence off of “performative” because performance is tremendously important right now especially
"In response to criticisms she's heard about the hat being 'performative,' Mashaal, the shop owner, said the thousands of dollars that have gone toward supporting their community speaks for itself."

So, when Trump and putin "negotiated not to bomb Kyiv", russians decided to simply bomb other cities.

Human garbage, seriously.
It's always fascinating to hear what D. Trump has to say about his very successful amazing talks with Putin. Apparently, his Russian counterpart "promised" not to bomb Kyiv until February 1st, which remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Moscow kills people in Kherson 👇

well, shit
anywhere you find people who want nothing more than to hole up at home and have an endless frictionless conveyor belt of food and entertainment delivered into their waiting receptacles, you find people like Elon Musk willing to exploit their passivity and greed

This is how we end up with western youth frothing at the mouth, yelling at victims to stop “demonising” russia cause it’s a “real country” with “culture”. None of that should matter, considering they’re a fascist empire. And also - they’re a settler-colonial “made-up” state, fyi.

This is NOT a coincidence.

Propaganda is not all in your face “russia is glorious, kill all Ukrainians”, they are appealing to all groups including progressive pro-LGBTQ+ youth with that hockey show, they want all of you to think russia is anything but a genocidal fascist state.
This is the fourth year of a full-scale, brutal war in Ukraine that Russia started. And yet we are watching a wave of content rehabilitating Russia’s image for a global audience while Ukrainian films that expose Russian terror are being ignored.

It is what it is, man. At least it's done, sort of, kind of, planned to be done someday in the future that is.
Today the Council gave the final greenlight to a regulation to phase out Russian pipeline and liquefied natural gas imports into the EU.

I simply think it should be harder to block windfarms without making it easier to build data centers, because we need more windfarms and it is not obvious to me that we need more data centers.
Also like, more narrowly: this whole thing started with the take "it should be harder to block critical infrastructure," in reference to a datacenter. I agree it should be harder to block critical infrastructure. I do not agree a data center is critical infrastructure.

we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

Russian attacks on the Ukrainian power grid are pure terror against Ukrainian civilians. They say it openly on their state media that their goal is a country-scale torture campaign. They want to dehumanize us and break our spirit. And if anyone cares at this point, yes, it's a war crime
