Super thread well worth reading. The general philosophy is applicable in so many areas of business and life-in-general.
I spent an excessive number of years moderating a gaming forum and I learned a great deal about community spaces and cultivation, whether I wanted to or not. I have critical advice for anyone who runs a game store or gaming convention. Please share this thread with people who run those things.

Would be really embarrassing if the second time NATO invokes Article 5 would be in response to actions taken by a Founding Member...

They are, in fact, some of the easiest to run I know of. Gems of playability and GM-ability.
I wish my games got more credit for how easy they are to run.

The true Gen X reaction to being lauded as the "greatest generation" would be to narrow its eyes suspiciously and mutter "whatever" when asked about it

Had not thought about that and now cannot unthink about it.
All these horrible Epstein emails being in GMAIL means he was getting ads based on his crimes and that's pretty fucked.

I must say that Russ Douthat w/ @nytimes.com is a sebaceous cyst on the sphincter of humanity. Every take *EVERY TAKE* from him is filled with ChristoFascism he tries to filter through a fake academic demeanor. I look forward to his inevitable comeuppance.

Lesley hits the nail on the head here...

And this problem is not going to solve itself.
Cybersecurity Reddit is devolving between mid career IT with certs saying only degrees are getting hired and grads saying only certs and experience are getting hired - and I'm sorry but this is late stage capitalist hell, comrades. Only people with degrees plus experience and certs are getting hired

Hot Take: The reason Vance and crew haven't activated the 25th Amendment is that they know the extreme MAGA types would likely use physical force against them and their families in retaliation.

Exec Meeting Pro Tip: If all you are going to do is read your slide just put the slide up, pause 15 seconds, and then ask if there are any questions. Everyone in the audience will be eternally thankful.

Better yet - condense what is likely a wall-of-text slide and speak to it at the right level.

Am I greatly disturbed somebody shot Charlie Kirk?

Yes.

Will I also not waste any time mourning his death?

Also yes.

Realizing political violence is wrong and not having sympathy for victims who advocated it are isn’t incompatible.

Charlie should not have died like this but I won’t mourn.

Moral of the Story?

You cannot outrun the bear but you have to try...otherwise you will certainly get eaten.
The velocity for patching Critical vulnerabilities is set by standards and driven by criminal activity. 2000-2010, the acceptable timeframe was 30 days. 14 days from 2010-2020. By 2022, 7 days became the norm.

The criminals, meanwhile? With Netscaler they had exploits within 12 hours of disclosure.

You know how companies deploying "AI" can help me be more productive?

Stop Asking Me If I Want To Use Your AI And Forcing Me To Click "No" To A Demo. I could save so much time to actually doing what I need to do.

A hot take on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S3E7 "What Is Starfleet" in response to a well done "Ups & Downs" feat. @seanferrick.bsky.social.

It seems like a lot of the disappointment/feelings about this episode are because it "didn't seem to be based on Star Trek". Fair enough....

Yeah, seriously. Joy is resistance. We have to find the joy wherever we can right now, and lecturing people who have found some brief relief from this hellscape about how bad they are is a real dick move.

When they aren't hurting anyone, just shut up and let people enjoy things. Don't be a dick.
I saw someone genuinely irritated that Taylor Swift fans are having some moments of joy these last couple of days despite the horrors of the world, I want to reassure that person that when the Taylor Swift fans are done having their joy the horrors will still be there, don't worry, they can catch up

Today's Deep Thought:

The most important skill for an executive is the ability to distinguish between "necessary nuance" and "harmful complexity".

A lack of ability in this area is, I think, the number one thing that limits executives I know.
