Today I learned about 'model collapse' and wow, am I cheering it on
…because gen AI relies on an internet that is human-generated. If AI draws from AI data, it runs into a problem that’s now being called model collapse. The best knowledge currently available says that model collapse *will* kill the current generation of chatbots, we just don’t know when.

Disability and poverty go hand in hand.

Anyone can become disabled at any time

It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” your way out of, and it’s an expensive existence

You are much closer to being sick and unhoused than you are to being rich & secure

This is remarkable. Four giant dams on the Klamath River along the CA-Oregon border were taken down last year. This year, salmon migrated all the way to the river headwaters, a 300-mile journey from the Pacific to central Oregon, for the first time since 1909. A fantastic success.

At least 3,000 people who have been detained in Chicago ICE raids are missing from official DHS records.

We still don’t know what happened to the 1200 people who went missing from the Everglades facility.

They’re disappearing people.

No due process. No accountability.
Could ICE have 'lost' 3,000 immigrant arrestees in Chicago?
At least 3,000 jailed immigrants have vanished from federal records, according to human rights attorneys and organizations.

Is the woman in the middle wearing my 1988 halloween costume (a winter coat over a toga?) She used "way snowflakey" in her question to Mark Bray. Clearly, this show is targeting a young audience. #hottake

Why would the United States do this?
The United States has sent letters to at least a handful of countries urging them to reject the goal of a global pact that includes limits on plastic production and plastic chemical additives.
Trump administration memo urges countries to reject plastic production caps
The U.S. stance broadly aligns with the positions laid out by the global petrochemicals industry.

Clever!!
NEW: In a likely first, security researchers have shown how generative AI agents can be hijacked to cause physical consequences.

They tricked Google's Gemini AI into turning off smart home lights, opening windows, and turning on a boiler.

They hid instructions to the AI in a *calendar invitation*
