This is so lovely, thank you.
i've been exhausted whenever i check social media recently, because so much is bad. I'm starting a thread of small good things.

first: this pastel piece, "Tiger in the Rain," by @chloecumming.bsky.social, that my wife bought me for Christmas.

I love it so much.

I’ve added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, so it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I always think is more interesting to see than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! www.rian-johnson.com/screenplays

Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Here's what happened:

Went to a brilliant concert of soul/disco tonight and while most of it was pure joy, there was also a very moving performance of Nina Simone's protest song Mississippi Goddam that was accidentally-on-purpose announced as Minnesota Goddam and ooft 😭

Oh oh the Evri delivery van is
Just four stops away
Oh wait a note just came through my door
It said "we tried to deliver it but
"you were out" and now
I wonder what I waited in for

(with apologies to Meredith Wilson)
sort of insane that there's a courier firm well known for working its staff so hard that they toss parcels in the bin and mark them as delivered

In 1981, IBM's PC, an open standard, changed computing forever. 6yrs later, they tried to make it all proprietary again with the PS/2.

One Company stood in their way: Compaq.

On 19th Feb, I'm giving a talk for the CCS on how Compaq saved the PC. www.computerconservationsociety.org/lectures/202...

All of us need to pitch in.

Can you bring over coffee and shoot the shit with your buddy?

Can you help clean their house a little? Run a load of groceries over?

Can you listen to your friend? Have a movie night? Make some tea?

This is heavy work and we need each other.
