This story is extraordinary even by 2025 standards. Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, made a deal with Bukele and agreed to renege on informant agreements in a years-long DOJ investigation into MS-13, totally undercutting credibility of such agreements.

Rubio promised to betray U.S. informants to get Trump’s El Salvador prison deal
To secure U.S. access to President Nayib Bukele’s notorious CECOT prison, Rubio agreed to turn over several MS-13 leaders central to a long-running Justice Department investigation.

From Wikipedia: For every 8.2 people executed, one person on death row has been exonerated, in the modern era. At least 200 people who were sentenced to death since 1973 have been exonerated. That would be about 2.2% or one in 46.

Despite their crowing about innovation Silicon Valley might be one of the greatest enemies of progress. Trump & DOGE, aided by tech money and social media, is destroying innovation in medicine, climate, and consumer tech, while AI threatens to stall progress on decarbonization.
the biomedical advances of the past twenty years have also been incredible. in a way, it really feels like we’ve been slouching towards utopia, so to speak, while society collapsed out from under us bc of changes in information technology/media diets

The amount of money we are giving to Argentina amounts to $450 per resident of that country. But we're not even giving it to people there who need it, we're giving it to prop up Elon's pal, the corrupt President of that country, who'll then shovel some of it into the pockets of Trump's friends here.
