Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, but the number killed intentionally remains unchanged.

This is my 6th year posting this same message. Black Friday is a nonsense with often pretend discounts on stuff you probably don’t need. We’ll do as we always do at this time and increase the 1% of all income we give to Women’s Aid to 10% on web sales over the weekend. Fuck Black Friday. #speirgorm

I would love Ireland to qualify for the World Cup for all the usual reasons. But it would also be fantastic to have the whole country festooned in tricolours that haven't been put up by the "Ireland is Full" lot.

Saying that it's "too hard" to get on the Irish president ballot when an independent woman got the entire Irish left to back her, got the biggest vote ever and beat two historically dominant parties is not just wrong - it is breathtakingly offensive and outrageously dishonest.

I 100% endorse this message. The spoiled votes are a 3rd or 4th order story in this election and disproportionate attention and airtime is a measure of the level of editorial discomfort with talking about Connolly’s success and FF/FG failure.
Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

There is no doubt that high no of spoiled votes is one of the stories of this election - a lesser one than the actual result of course-but it is due some serious consideration

That said, I suspect we will instead get the usual shallow analysis-suggesting an ignored conservative electorate #aras25

The one conclusion they will assiduously avoid, of course, is that Catherine Connolly just won this election because a majority of voters want her to be the president, and that they want her to be the president because of her politics.

This is exactly why we do what we do, and don't accept invites or gifted experiences. People's hard earned money is of VALUE, most don't have the spare cash to throw around on substandard experiences. I'm not one for the restaurant scene generally, but this is great journalism...

Articles like the ones published in newspapers are not entirely harmless -- they erode trust in journalism and could have ruined a night out, and not everybody has or can afford that many nights out these days.

For the record: it is not possible, at this juncture, to officially withdraw or to remove a name from the #aras25 ballot paper.

Jim Gavin’s name will remain on the ballot for Friday 24th, merely with no campaign behind it.

What’s missing from a lot of the commentary on the failure of the hard right to get a candidate on the ticket was how utterly incompetent they were in preparing for an election we’ve known about for years.

Last minute effort stinks of laziness. They didn’t even have a candidate a few weeks back!

People have been able to get nominated in previous elections, those tended to have a record of doing something in the community or are known. So the process works.
It just doesn't work if you're an extremist or have no record of doing anything positive for the community. #aras25
