Sometimes I think about how for much of history everyone was medicated on booze, nicotine, cocaine, hasish, opiates, amphetamines, etc., and now we're all expected to just be out here raw-dogging life

This sounds like the opening of a Philip K. Dick story.

After his colonoscopy Albert becomes increasingly convinced that he remains in the anesthetized world, and he must let medical professionals know that he's trapped there because only he knows that crab aliens from Synrid VI are invading Earth!

US Congress voted 285–98 to condemn "socialism." 88 Democrats joined Republicans, including Hakeem Jeffries.

What they mean by socialism is your access to healthcare, housing, safety regulations, and anything that benefits you instead of the oligarchy. There has been no vote to condemn fascism. #3E

I was thinking this morning about people I knew at EB Games 20-25 years ago. Employees, customers, even people I interviewed.

In my memories, they are all frozen in time as they were then, even though all are older now (and a few have died). I prefer the memory.

I was trying to figure out what my Congressman, Lloyd Smucker (R-Toady), was yammering about on Facebook this morning. This is the context I was missing.
Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

"What happens when an industry spends 15 years telling talented young journalists that personal brand is currency."

It's not an "industry" saying that. It's professional society. It's why LinkedIn is a cesspool of relentless selling and gamification of "personal brands."

I hate it.
"She’s not trying to rebuild her reputation as a journalist—she’s building a different kind of brand entirely, one where being interesting matters more than being ethical, where attention is the only currency that still spends."

The best thing I have read about her. www.mediaite.com/opinion/the-...
The Olivia Nuzzi Comeback Is Everything Wrong With Modern Media
Olivia Nuzzi’s comeback isn’t a personal scandal story—it’s proof that today’s media rewards access, personality, and controversy more than ethics.

York's B&N opened in July, and the location is, imho, poor. Even though it's five miles from me, I'm more likely to go 25 to go to Lancaster's.

Point is, it's nice that there's a B&N in York, but it's not part of the fabric yet.

Nobody's ever got anywhere near the deep importance of the relationship between Paul & George in The Beatles. They were the first Beatles to meet – *they* essentially created the spark for the band on the bus together. And I don't think G ever quite forgave P for then fawning over big boy John.

media coverage of this is already as pathetic as you might expect, usually failing to mention:

the FCC has no authority over the UK's BBC

the scandal was created by right wing media

the year-old BBC edits fall outside limits of UK defamation law

PBC, NPR never aired the documentary
Trump's censor in chief at the FCC, Brendan Carr, just sent a letter to the heads of BBC, NPR and PBS informing them he's launching a "news distortion" probe into the BBC's editing of a documentary on Trump's Jan. 6 activities.
