Great education for all of us!

For anybody who has booked an airline ticket or ordered groceries know that there are a lot of decision points and also the web is fragile. Without exception and error handling how useful is this ? Other than being a pretty demo what is the point?

They wish to be visibly cruel because it makes them feel big and strong.
Block them with the most powerful block button we've had on social media to save yourself the energy, and save others from the garage being spread
That means the absolute worst people in the world are going to be coming here trying to turn THIS place into just as much of a shithole. Block them. Don't engage.

It can be of modest size and still be successful, it doesn't need to replace Twitter it just needs to be good and a healthier space for you to exist in that you self curate
It's the fact that it $6M to build on just 2048 older gen GPU's.
I haven't seen such a rapid decline in price points in any technology ever.

Wonder who will win the race to a trillion and how soon.
First Q of 2025? Reminds me of the CPU GHz wars of the 90's.

We trained 2 new models. Like BERT, but modern. ModernBERT.
Not some hypey GenAI thing, but a proper workhorse model, for retrieval, classification, etc. Real practical stuff.
It's much faster, more accurate, longer context, and more useful. 🧵
Step 1 : Extract text and attachments from a PST file and create a record for each email in MongoDB.
Metadata in separate fields like sender, receiver and timestamp.
We use a fileserver that associates a token for each attachment.

Nice to see my assessment being echoed by experienced devs.
I believe that the fear of no strict typing has been over hyped.
JS without types works fine. Use TS if it works for you but don't claim that it's superior.
I’ve now spent more time fighting against TS than writing out logic. I.e. I would have been 2x as productive without it.
Out of all these warnings, how many actually helped me fix real bugs? 0.
¹ I prefer JSDoc w/ TS imports myself.

Is it something that people have unconsciously given up on?
Feels good actually and I hope the trend continues.

While there are a lot of tools that do this, what we have realised is we need to focus on the data structures and algorithms (1/2).

Like Meta pushing AI in WhatsApp, I think they are pushing it out as they don't know what to do with the tech. The spend has to be justified I guess.

Engaging with toxic posts, even if it’s to rebut or mock them, is still a form of amplification
We need to go back to the basics of the early Internet: Don’t feed the trolls (and the grifters)
#SocialWeb
The goal is to build something better
One key thing to do is "block and don’t interact"
Don’t quote post dumb posts
Don’t reply to bad actors, trolls, reply guys, and extremists
Just block them
Life is too short to be wasted on idiocy and toxicity

Reminds me of twitter from a decade ago.
Encouraged enough to start posting again, rather than just lurking around.
