I took a look at all sorts of options for #NYR to address the offensive void. Trade options, internal options, or... doing nothing at all.

This is why "do you think the Dems need a new Senate leader?" needs to be posed to every single senate Dem in office. It's the closest proxy we have. Make them all go on the record with where they truly stand.
Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

With Cornyn MIA & still not voting, votes can still be changed. An effective leader would be burning up phone lines trying to flip one of the Dems who voted yes to kill this deal.

So, what’s Schumer doing right now?
November 10, 2025 at 3:11 AM
I think the best-case scenario is that someone convinces Schumer he's some sort of martyr whom everyone will remember for protecting his *esteemed colleagues* if he gives up the position.
Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.
This is a lovely sentiment but Schumer isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he knows this. At which point he will be 77/78. There's no mechanism to recall a sitting senator AFAIK.

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

Speaking of being replaced at the ballot box...
This, from Tim Kaine is HILARIOUS:

Yeah I’m not sure how well this would hold up for many of them if you were to look at things they were willing to support at the expense of millions going hungry.
I think one thing we lose sight of is that it’s really easy to chant that we gotta touch the stove, and it’s a completely different thing to be the owner of the ongoing decision that 40 million people gotta go hungry. That’s a heavy thing and I’m not at all surprised that some Dems are worried.

After sitting on the tarmac for 70 minutes, the pilot has informed us that LaGuardia is now at a full ground stop for a minimum of 60 minutes. No flights in or out.

All this so that Trump can deny people healthcare.

It’s been very funny watching guys like O’Leary and Ackman have meltdowns because they can’t conceive of a politician to whom their money can’t buy access.
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

This is very good.

There's a lot of other context to consider of course (team direction, alternative options, etc), but this is a convincing case for NYR to re-sign Artemi Panarin.
16 Stats 📊📈📉
Artemi Panarin, Adrian Kempe and Alex Tuch are the last of the big free agents. How much should they get on their next deals?

Plus notes on Josh Doan and standout defensive performances from Suzuki, McDavid and Theodore.

One cool difference between the left and the right is that the left capitalizes on its fandom by organizing them to do volunteer work whereas the right capitalizes on fandom by selling them vitamin supplements and Trump-branded watches.
Zohran Mamdani's Campaign Figured Out How to Channel Fandom

The Zohran Mamdani campaign ran a competent social media program, yes. But it's the fandom it fostered that transformed Mamdani into a digital (and IRL!) phenomenon.

Much of the content about Mamdani online hasn't come from his campaign, or the dozens of political influencers invited to cover it. It's also come from fans.

great example of following politics on vibes not substance

-a major plank of Mamdani's affordability pitch has been supporting small businesses in the city (bodegas, food trucks, even taxis are small businesses)
-the Mayor doesn't set tax policy

I hate the idea of stanning politicians because people are fallible and ideas are what actually matters.

But I would put a 10-foot tall fathead of Lina Khan on my wall if it became available for sale.
Lina Khan, as she is announced as being part of Zohran Mamdani’s transition team:

“I think what we saw last night was New Yorkers not just electing a new mayor, but clearly rejecting a politics where outside corporate power and money too often.”

A bunch of Resist Libs are about to Google "Eugene Debs." This is how power is built.
Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Feels cool to have a Democrat in power who doesn't act like he needs to constantly apologize to for having progressive stances.
