in wake of bug friend breakthrough i tried out a younger Apiro design. colors probably not final? current design for reference
left: Apiro as a young adult, a dark purple-gray dragon with darker spines that run down his back and over-wing, slightly brighter magenta eyes, and horns that grade into the same color. his build is stocky, akin to the adult lions in The Lion King. his tail is short compared to his body length, and meant to be stiff, but curls down behind his legs. right: a cleaned profile sketch of Apiro angrily blowing steam out of his mouth and nostrils, top incisors and canine teeth visible. my first drawing of Apiro from 2022, present day, showing his age through a rusty brown color palette, slightly wrinkly face and wings, and overall loss of muscle mass. despite this, he is mid-step, wings open, tail out behind him, and scowling, like he's marching into a confrontation. the spines that run down his back are drawn in more detail and slightly lighter color than his body. his eyes are still dark magenta, with dark sclera visible, and the same magenta grades down his spine; that magenta is no longer present in his current design. there is an old cut on the tailing edge of his left wing (your right). a colored profile of Apiro i drew November of 2024, background transparent. his mouth is open in a roar, nostrils flared, showing off the back of his throat, roof of his mouth, wide forked tongue, and all of his teeth.

i've had a problem with bugs in this world i've been creating, where Strand is the only "good guy" bug while the four villains are all bugs. but i'm trying to overcome a bug fear. i made Strand cute for that reason. bug villains with bug fear factor goes directly against that.
these were all drawn on one canvas, but i've split them into three images for brevity of alt text. a Boguin from the game Owlboy designed after a leucistic bluebird. its body grades from off-white to light purple on its limbs, darkest on the legs. the front is yellow with pale horizontal stripes running down from its neck to its belly, yellow antenna-like plumicorns that curl forward, small horns that curl backward from its head, and dark yellow eyes. this Boguin is black with a curly ruff of feathers around the neck that's a little lighter than the rest of its body. its horns stand upright, its ruffled plumicorn shoots out and upward from the back of its head, and its eyes are bronze colored. this Boguin is crouching to look at something on the ground, and is designed after a longhorn cow. long horns protrude from the top of it head, and the plumicorns under them are fan-like, akin to ears. its eyes are brown, head and back are University of Texas orange, neck is white with orange splotches, and the limbs and belly are solid white, spare the lower legs which share the same color as the horns.and most importantly, its nose is pink.
