to be clear, it is fine if you just want to dick around! that's what i mostly do on here. but the idea that "you're giving up the fight to influence people by not using X" is belied by the fact that effectively *no one* uses X. and i don't see any of the "use X!" people on tiktok or youtube.

These people want leftist and liberals to come back to Twitter so badly. They give all kinds of reasons, but the fact is without them the Nazi bar marinates in its own juices and they can't stand it.

Where I get worried is more about how this will cause people to misunderstand policy effects.

If a rezoning makes housing more available, such that household formation increases, that is a policy success!

But! If you look at "housing as percent of income" it will probably go *up*.

i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

the biggest lesson from the emails today is that powerful people are so unafraid of consequences for crimes as bad as “raping children” that they will just talk about it openly in emails

the only path to a better society is one where that is no longer true

the fact that most people don't realize that dishwashers are better than hand-washing in almost every aspect is a genuine failure.
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

I just voted NO on the bill that fails to prevent the looming health care crisis and fails to rein in Trump’s lawless actions, but I won’t give up — and I urge the American people to stay in the fight despite this disappointing outcome.

not to bring the vibe down, but my guess is that after tonight Trump will probably double down on gerrymandering, voter suppression, and intimidation as tactics to disincentivize Dem turnout ahead of next year‘s midterms. (with margins like these, it won’t matter, but it’s a time to be vigilant)

This is really appalling: Rep Adam Smith tells me that in a briefing, Pentagon officials said they reserve the right to kill people who are "affiliated" with their list of "narco-terror groups."

But under questioning, they wouldn't define what "affiliated" means!

“throw everything at the wall and see what sticks and then push that” has been an enormously successful political strategy for Trump and I don’t understand why many Dems consider it anathema
in general i believe that high ranking democrats should not be trying to guess which stories will break through at all
My wife’s (in some cases three-time) trump voting relatives have started mentioning the ballroom to me, negatively; anecdata but I’d like to see some high quality polling. I think it’s a mistake by certain elite elected Dems to think this story isn’t breaking thru
