In coal mining camps, companies provided families with spaces for gardens for two reasons: 1) they could pay the men less since the garden supplemented income, and 2) use it as a threat against organizing, as families kicked out of their home lost access to the food.

the fun part of going to the swimming pool is spotting the occasional Supernatural "possession be gone" tattoo on people. Sometimes over the heart, sometimes not.

Another halloween, someone snuck on their farm and cut the mane and tail of their pony, which traumatized it to the point it stopped eating and eventually keeled over dead. On my mom's side, her parents one time cut a tree down to block a road, then saw an ambulance coming and frantically moved it.

My grandad, in his oral history, shared his father refused to let them out of the house no Halloween so he could tell anyone that his kids had nothing to do with X, Y, or Z, mischief, damage, and so on. He recalled one Halloween, a group disassembled a wagon and re-assembled it on a guy's roof.
