Moments like this are a good way to tell if the self described “moderates” in your are really committed to opposing extremism or if they really just meant “cowards.”
I'm not a political radical, in fact, I'm far from it. That's is why I'm going to be at the #nokings protest on Saturday. Tearing down our institutions to suit a mad king's delusions isn't conservatism, it's radicalism. It's destruction for its own sake. They aren't trying to conserve anything!
Johnson: "We call it the Hate America Rally that will happen Saturday. Let's see who shows up for that. I bet you you'll see Hamas supporters, I bet you'll see antifa types, I bet you'll see Marxists on full display, people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic"
Incidentally, this is why Democrats need to learn to double down and escalate when Republicans try to trip them up on some decency double standard gotcha.

Remember when Hillary Clinton got excoriated for calling Trump supporters “deplorables”
Leavitt: "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."

This is why I've begun developing a model of healthy masculinity for progressives — so that when we reach out to young males, some of them actually resonate with what we have to say. This is possible when we turn traditional male concepts like dominance and duty to prosocial goals. #masculinity
AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

We constantly talk about Dems' struggles to reach deeper into the culture and access people who ignore politics.

You know what issue is penetrating deep into the culture? ICE's masked raids and kidnappings! It's on Rogan and in country music. In the Manosphere!

...which simultaneously erodes trust in coverage and deprives them of the juiciest stories, further depleting audiences and accelerating the death spiral of the 'neutral information environment.' Liberals need to massively step up investments in our own media NOW.
I think the main barrier to honest, direct coverage from the mainstream media in Trump 1.0 was professional norms/reflexive both sides-ism. In 2.0, that's still a factor, but a bigger barrier may be ownership. Reporters/editors know that many media owners are wary of too much anti-Trump coverage.
The problem is that right now you’re giving it away for free
Super cool to see my health insurance for a family of 4 going up by double digit percentages again. #ThanksTrump
It’s their classic move, isn’t it? Escalate way beyond what seems reasonable and count on us backing down. Gotta show them it won’t work.
Sign idea: I’ve seen multiple Republicans calling it a “hate America rally,” so go with something about loving America.
The demonstration I went to in June was one of the most uplifting experiences I've had since the inauguration. The only hate I saw was from the handful of drivers who flipped us off. It was nice to be surrounded by people who care. Now accepting ideas for a sign. (My best idea is just "NOPE")
The House Majority Whip is also insisting that a peaceful "No Kings" demonstration is in fact a "hate America rally" held for the "terrorist wing" of the Democratic Party.

Really feels like they're trying to manifest a violent reaction to it.

With San Francisco's ranked choice system, Chesa Boudin won 36% of first choice ballots in his election.
I'm sure you're right — itself a skill not to be overlooked, I would say
Perfect execution on the idea of turning away from "defund" — while turning toward funding non-police intervention in mental health calls and *framing it as something to help out the police.*

This guy has political skill lightyears beyond the Chesa Boudins and Pamela Prices of the world.
Interesting dynamic in NYC where Zohran Mamdani is blunting opposition from patrol officers by taking their poor job conditions seriously. Bob Kuttner has this one:

Mamdani Courts the Cops
He is doing a lot better than you might think.

Hell yah, I did it the moment I received it. Fellow Californians: step up now! #yeson50 #stopelectionrigging #protectourdemocracy
Indeed, if you're not confronting the out of control corruption of SCOTUS, then what even are you rebuilding?
I've argued for years we need to use intention checks instead of fact checks.
What people cannot seem to get through their heads is that the justifications the Trump administration uses to attack higher education is a *pretext* not the actual reason. There is no reasonable permanent compromise available, because their actual goal is control.
Danielle Allen fails the Lando test / lives out the Arrested Development meme: "A deal on the core principles in a compact could then become a framework for negotiating on legislation." Come ON. With this administration and this Congress?

Note: this does not mean they pay attention when you hammer healthcare, either. Something much more trivial/gossipy often works better.
This is normatively true, and yet...in my #politicalpsychology work I've seen that at least a key slice of lo-info voters put up mental barricades when confronted w hi-stakes/hi-salience political issues. That's *how they got to be* lo-info.
The idea that talking about the collapse of America is a “high-info” message is so absurd, and so condescending
To stake out a very un-Bluesky position: I basically understand the argument that Murphy is paraphrasing, and I think it is defensible for the party to have messengers like Murphy talk about democracy to high-info high-edu audiences while Bernie, AOC, and congressional leadership hammer healthcare.

Here’s my cliff notes summary of Pete Hegseth’s big military address today
Neat illustration of the difference between messaging and positioning.

"If you're explaining, you're losing."
That’s better, but I still think the frame of “explaining” is just completely wrong. Don’t explain, attack, and invite the watching public to join you
I’m not talking about “Joe Six Pack Regular American Speak” I’m talking fundamental American ideas like why it’s important to have a functioning separation of powers. It’s not even policy, it’s basic civics. People don’t understand that and it’s empowering for people when they do.
So weird that the guy who made COVID worse on purpose is also raising prices on purpose 🤷
The guy who promised to lower the cost of prescription drugs is instead doubling their cost.

Same guy who’s kicking tens of millions off health care.
