I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

But note that this injustice is not about missing resources: It is about using a resource that can be helpful in many cases to the benefit of the powerful in this situation. This implies a major shift in how we should think about hermeneutical injustice - and how we should address it.

NEW ESSAY: rather than reading the legalese SCOTUS used to justify Skrmetti, learn about how conspiracy theorists hijacked mainstream discourse on gender-affirming care:

All these commentators have no clue what they're talking about. It was never about self id but about the right to privacy, the EHRC's interpretation of the SC judgment threatens the right to privacy in public life.

This one’s real easy: you got old and comfortable and reactionary, and now you think the Daily Mail has a point. A much more helpful and revealing question than “Are kids selfish and dumb” would be “Why is this bigotry acutely localised to politics and journalism?”

There is absolutely no evidence that therapy alone improves the distress of transgender youth and widespread evidence that therapy is useful in conjunction with parental support and access to gender-affirming care.

better yet, consider unsubscribing from HBO/Max the week before her show comes out (& if you rejoin, wait until the HP season is over). it's not enough to *not* watch it – HBO needs to know it will hurt their bottom line if they continue producing it
if you care about trans people, do not watch the new jk rowling show. don’t even hate watch it or you will be funding this new intentionally transphobic organization. we cannot allow hateful people take away more of our rights

Supreme Court and EHRC interim guidance already having a chilling impact on trans safety in the UK - this happened to my friend yesterday, and they've asked for help in sharing it as widely as possible.

And if this makes you angry - DO SOMETHING. We do not let the people who hate us win.
1. "I left as fast as I could. I didn’t wait for pain control. Is this the future for trans people in hospitals now?"

My incredible friend Jamie Hale - writer, director, head of @cripticarts.bsky.social - was in hospital today, and this was their experience. They've given me permission to share.

Extremely devastating news for transgender people in the United Kingdom.

So much of what we face in the United States has shared roots in that country, and this Supreme Court decision there will make people far less free.

Crackdowns on trans people are international, not limited to borders.
The UK Supreme Court has unanimously decided that the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010 refers solely to biological sex, and does not include people with a Gender Recognition Certificate.

I share the deep disappointment in today's Supreme Court ruling, and the concerns about what this will mean for trans women going forward.

Today and every day, I stand in unwavering solidarity with the trans community.

We must never stop fighting for trans rights.

Martin Durham, in a rediscovered talk given to History Workshop in 1983, and Daniel Jones (@narson.bsky.social) on the continued resonance of these insights in today's world.
