The current cast of Hadestown on Broadway is truly hitting it right in the bullseye. WOW! All of them, notably Kurt Elling, Jack Wolfe and Rebecca Naomi Jones, as excellent takes on the characters they play. So lucky to have seen it with this cast.

There’s not a single filmmaker who is so magically good it should excuse them being a bully. Not one. Give their money to someone else. We have plenty of talent and too many assholes hogging the resources.

And “Christmas in Hollis” isn’t just there: John specifically requests “Christmas music” as an alternative, and Argyle challenges his assumption: “This IS Christmas music!” It’s an opening declaration of intent: What “Christmas in Hollis” is to Christmas music, “Die Hard” is to Christmas movies.

It has “Christmas In Hollis” and “Let It Snow.” It has Christmas packing tape and a Christmas tree at a Christmas party. It has a Santa suit and “HO-HO-HO.” It happens at Christmas and involves a visit for Christmas. This is not a hard question.

There was a heated argument in the room over the ruggedness of Brawny vs the softer texture of Bounty but it was resolved in civil debate and a consensus was reached. That’s what Mr Bezos expects from us in the Duke’s Hot Sauce Habanero Ass Blast Debate Room presented by Rocket Mortgage

I have watched the clip of Mamdani talking about the 2010 Ghana-Uruguay match more times than I care to admit. This is so deeply personal to me & nothing he has said or done to this point has endeared him to me more. (11:12 here youtu.be/hsi5C_5HpoY?...)

There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

I am by no means a prominent public intellectual, but my inbox is increasingly filled with messages from people who have been convinced by sycophantic chatbots that they have discovered revolutionary theories that entirely upend our scientific understanding of the universe.

In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.

It is genuinely incredible to me how much evidence there is to support investing in the public good and how much animus there is to do this simple, effective thing.

I think it’s great that our media elites have decided that men in their 30s saluting Hitler are just rambunctious kids who got carried away, while 16-year old girls being trafficked and raped by billionaires are “underage women” making informed choices. Definitely reflects well on us as a society.

AI is like asbestos! I’ve been thinking about unregulated social media as comparable to the “big tobacco” fight. Big AI is going to be so hard to fight and just as destructive, this time to democracy, education, and intellectual anything. Thinking itself is poisoned.
