I want a dream that knows what's best
I want a dream with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes🎶

Seeing how the Baseball Hall of Fame pussyfooted around the Ruth-Landis issue was the moment I realized how disappointed I was in the Hall of Fame.
Landis’ racism is one of those things that is ignored by the worst historical accounts of the Black Sox but even the “better” histories of it sorta mention it but mostly gloss over it (I’ve seen the Ruth suspension mischaracterized in multiple accounts)
Also revisited the 1919 Black Sox scandal, which I learned caused no discernible harm to MLB’s business, just its image in the eyes of press. The first commissioner punished the Black Sox while enforcing a far worse violation of competitive integrity. frontofficesports.com/gambling-isn...

Standing up and without a throw on a ball hit to left field.
Most MLB inside-the-park homers, last 90 years:

9 - Roberto Clemente, Lou Brock
8 - Willie Mays, Hank Bauer
7 - 5 players
6 - 6 players

LOL well that saves me a click.
Rolling Stone didn't put Sinners on its top 20 list of films for this year and I'm appalled.

Okay I have way too many Cubs fan mutuals for this to not be relevant to someone's interests.
Fieldmaster NBR16101, Chicago Cubs model. These gloves were sold through Sears in the early 70's. Rare to find them in this nice of condition. All original lacing, just lightly conditioned. $75 plus s/h, [email protected] to claim.

All 50,000 panels of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt has been fully digitized.

You can search Duane's name and see the panel he made. And someone else made a panel for him, too.

I named my fists Common and Sense because I'm about to bring the Paine
I named my fists Blood and Meridian because I’m fixing to Judge your ass.

I think this describes three quarters of MLB teams. (And most of the rest are actively tanking)
I guess the plan is to just hang around and be fake competitive, hoping to bounce into 87 wins, for as long as the dodgers are good. should only be another 25 years or so

Oh wow. Hadn't heard the term "red chip" before but totally going to use it now. Also holy shit missing the Barry McGee connection is embarrassingly bad.
Hyperallergic going for the fucking JUGGULAR on SFMOMA and their embrace of KAWS. A perfectly San Francisco tale of bad red chip art. 🎯https://hyperallergic.com/kaws-makes-art-for-the-tech-bro-era-sfmoma/

"so palatable that it’s sickening" applies to so much of contemporary culture, @wdavidmarx.bsky.social excellent new cultural history of the last 25 years "Blank Space" doesn't mention KAWS, but diagnoses all the factors that contribute to this

Henry Ford was a terrible human being, but at least he understood that the economy would be unworkable and unsustainable unless the workers who made Model T's were paid enough to buy Model T's.
If you want people to spend more, pay them more.

His Merkle pickup shows a later photo & might be 1940 World Series game 3, given Detroit's home unis & Cincy's road uni. If so, #10 at lower left is its winning pitcher, Tommy Bridges. The play shown might be a 9th-inning ground ball E5.

one more cab calloway thing: he performed "minnie the moocher" in blues brothers, which was a 1931 song in a 1980 movie, the modern equivalent would be aerosmith performing "back in the saddle" in a movie released this year, you're all welcome
