May I present evidence of batshit moment #3 m’lud. My client claims grievous injury due to the drops of tea striking her foot. And thereby affecting her memory of the events leading to the traumatic incident involving the hot beverage
Sheldon: when people are upset the cultural convention is to bring them a hot beverage

I now need to go down the rabbit hole of looking for printers in the local directories for the early 1900s.
It would be interesting to see if that was a house errr ‘style’, if there are any others in BW Museum
owenthesignal.bsky.social
I took the photo yesterday sorting through the Austin & Wyatt archive in BW Museum

Interesting, good point. I’d assumed that the local printer had used the poster to advertise his typesetting skills as much as the the sale of a large local farm and buildings

Also definitely includes headlining with a font from 50 years in the future

I just wish the printer had left their name on the poster. In a completely different font, of course

Today is the centenary of the birth of the great Tony Hart who opened the eyes of generations to visual art and who is forever associated with this, the shimmering Gallery theme from Vision On – which was also pretty much everyone’s introduction to the vibraphone. youtu.be/-ZNkJXKV7_w

For reasons, it would be v. helpful to have information from a broad range of academic and non-academic (incl. GLAM) users of the BBC Written Archives OTHER THAN historians, briefly on: 1) What you've used it for and 2) How the proposed changes would impact on your research.

Reposts welcomed.

Today's the 959th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, so obviously I'm reposting my scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry in Playmobil.

117 years on, Ashton Farm is on the market again.
In 1908, it was put up for auction at £6000. In 2025, it’s on for over £6,000,000

What are the lottery numbers this weekend?!

Still can’t get my head round the font on the first line, could have been the font used on many a Co-Op and laundromat in the 50s and 60s.
But this is 1908!

That’s extraordinary! The architectural equivalent of the Dead Brewers Society, recreating historic beers from old recipes and original strains of yeast.
I had hoped to try the recreation of Gales’ Horndean Special Bitter, much missed local favourite. Cunningly named ‘High Speed Bitter’ 😉

Came for the beer, stayed for the tiling. And stained glass toplights. And ‘VAULTS’

‘Yes’

Probably a couple of years before any worthwhile crop off the espalier of Egremont Russet that I planted a couple of years ago. Looking forward to it, as it will be different to the other varieties such as Cox and Margil elsewhere in the garden

And my N-NW horizon is covered by tall trees, would have to have both clear skies and a very early start to have a hope of seeing now.
Shame it wasn’t obvious when I had dark skies and a northerly location when on the Iceland trip

Sussex was home for 8 years. A little part is still there, so I always bring back a bottle of Harvey’s when I visit the Bluebell Railway 🍻
