When will this crisis get any attention whatsoever!? A THOUSAND ACADEMIC STAFF AT ONE INSTITUTION SERVED REDUNDANCY RISK NOTICES! And that's not counting what's surely being visited on professional services staff too. This is an economic catastrophe, to say nothing of the intellectual catastrophe!
Ongoing decimation of British universities part 252:

Apx. 1000 academic staff at University of Essex just received formal ‘risk of redundancy’ letters via email.

Politico's idiocy on full display. Platforming – indeed, celebrating – someone whining about what an "awful time" it is for...Russia.
"I really have big hopes for Russia," Yulia Navalnaya said in an interview at our #POLITICO28 Gala in Brussels.

"I understand that it’s very difficult moment. It’s very difficult moment for Europe, and, of course, it’s an awful time for Russia."

Despite the amount of research which has shown that trying to appease or mimic the far right mainstreams and strengthens it, the Guardian sits on the fence and in fact spends much of their "analysis" justifying the move

What's going on in that editorial room?

What is this high school debate shit?

Everyone wants peace!

Adults just realize that any peace which lasts beyond a Russian re-arming / recruitment cycle has to be on terms that don't reward Russia's initial invasion with land and legitimacy, and which meaningfully deter future aggression.

Nothing is more symbolic of Europe's inherent weakness of resolve - EU and UK - than the failure of governments and institutions to leave X/Twitter en masse. It's easier to stay, so stay they do. Pathetic.
First, leave X. Leave X. Now.

Sensible conclusion to Sam’s newsletter. When UK politicians talk about joining the EU CU they aren’t (usually) talking about a or let alone the CU - they’re making a rhetorical approximation for something that would negate all the negative aspects of Brexit on trade in goods.
A lot of this comes down to UK politicians wanting to negate the consequences of Brexit without negating Brexit itself. But no, you can't have your cake and eat it too - and I don't think a very overt dependency on EU policy with no say is sustainable for the UK.

While #AirQuality has improved in recent decades, air pollution remains a serious public health concern 😷

In their latest report, @ieep-uk.bsky.social compares EU and UK air quality policy, highlighting areas where closer alignment could strengthen UK standards.

Read the full report here 👇
[Report] Air Quality Policy in the UK and EU: State of Play - IEEP UK
This report provides a 'state of play' comparative assessment of EU/UK (England) air quality policy, identifying areas where alginment with the EU would mean better UK standards and provide a useful milestone towards achieving WHO guideline limits for major pollutants. Building upon some of IEEP UK's recent work in this area, it examines developments around air quality legislation as well as those areas of policy which interact and intersect with it, including climate, transport, energy, industrial pollution control and land, agriculture and nature protection legislation.
