READER BEWARE 5: DEATH OF THE EDITORS

Agree so much. Seriously pursuing writing at all is downstream from reading a lot. The more I read the more I want to write, then I write and want to read more. An extremely not-vicious cycle that in no way leads to AI use. Can't imagine sticking a shitty computer middle man in there. AI corrupts.
Look, this person doesn't understand what process is and how keeping it writer-based supports style and narrative, period. Thus, several things she suggests harmless if AI-driven are actually harmful. Also, the fallacy that AI is inevitable belies evidence of a bubble 1/2 file770.com/erin-underwo...
Erin Underwood: Open Letter to the Science Fiction Writers Association and Community
Hi Friends, Erin Underwood After writing the letter below, I thought rather than sending it to SFWA only, I’d share it with Mike at File 770 along with a note that read: “Am I crazy? Will this blow…

There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

Writing a piece about the disinformation in America as it relates to my local community fighting the data center they want to install here, and it's made me think of a Tim Rogers quote (Action Button Reviews on Youtube):
"To speak to today, to speak to right now, confounds us and makes us sick."

I wrote roughly 400 pages of fiction this year and read the most I ever have in my life and I still can't fucking spell disappeared correctly the first time I type it.

When I write I am always fretting about my very frequent use of parentheticals and "[statement], but..." sentence structure. Just a result of the way I think/write or a bad habit I need to break? It's particularly egregious when I attempt non-fiction.

Any Democrat who thinks it's appropriate to "find common ground" with the Republicans on issues like high school sports teams is negotiating with a political party that does not believe trans people should exist. This policy will kill people, so maybe stop wringing your hands about volleyball.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

The data center they're trying to build near me is being proposed by an unnamed, third-party developer who signed an NDA (likely in violation of Oklahoma open meetings law) with the mayor and city council, and it DOESN'T HAVE A PLANNED USE. Madness. Thankfully the community is pissed and organized.

My favorite writing thing I did this year beside publish my book was get back into short story writing, including writing this one and getting published at a dream pub. If you haven’t read it, I’ll say that i think it’s a very good end of year kind of story to read

When OpenAI says 800 million users... That's gotta be counting people using it on accident in all the various places it's been shoved into, right? I have to believe there aren't that many people globally just prompting the piece of shit on purpose.

a man’s voice,

Are there any search engines without AI? i switched to Ecosia years ago when I learned they actually do some real reforestation work (always had assumed it was just PR). Now they're pushing AI search like everyone else. Duck duck go?

The attacks on trans rights, which are basic human rights, are a terrible injustice and an attack on truth and fact as well. Everyone should be deeply alarmed and it should be disqualifying for a politician to support such discrimination.

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Feel sick with dread because I found out last night they're trying to put an AI data center a few miles north of my house. Company bought 900 acres of land zoned for agriculture and they're just trying to get it rezoned for lighting and industrial. Emailed everyone in the city council
