And these agents who think "I'm just following orders" is a defense really need to read some books someday. Cowards.
“Mr. Paul said the agents had told him that they disagreed with the directive to arrest Ms. Paul but that they had to follow orders.

“They are having them grab everyone they can,” Mr. Paul said. “This is just not right.”

At the moment 9 (or 10 counting myself) - 4 postdocs, 4 PhD students, and a lab manager

We've been an large as 30 before, with 10 postdocs, 6 or 7 grad students, multiple admin and insectary staff, and undergrads.

It all depends on current funding
To my fellow researchers in life science around the 🌎. I have a question: How many professionals (researchers, associate, assistant, tech, engineers...) vs students/postdoc/in your group (if part of big units with multiple groups, consider the unit). Pls indicate your country.

Faculty plan out our grant writing MONTHS if not YEARS in advance - having programs suddenly disappear like this is utterly demoralizing and completely destructive for everyone’s productivity (including students!)
The NSF Bio Anthro Program DDRIG, Cultural Anthrpology DDRIG, and Archaeology DDRIG have all been archived (as of yesterday afternoon). Please speak with your grad students and plan accordingly. To say I am angry and depressed about this is an understatement.

Scintillating scotoma gone now. I think I took my pills in time to head off the pain but we'll see.

Either way i'm going to be useless today

Trying to submit a MS for 2 weeks. Kept getting kicked back for stupid things (like the acknowledged grants were not in the same order in the MS as what I inputed in the website). Finally fixed all the things and it was desk-rejected the next day. Unnecessary waste of fucking time.

Assholes.

3-sentence Project Narrative for NIH:

1. Completely lay sentence with no jargon describing what the research is about.
2. A sentence that begins, "This is relevant to public health because..."
3. A sentence that begins, "This work supports the [NIH or your IC] priority: [quote priority].

I am begging people to *please* stop using these tools to make a point or make fun of them. We do not need to further refine them or kill the planet to make a point. We should stop using them to make them irrelevant.

Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

My grants that did not get reviewed in October due to the shutdown will now be reviewed at the end of January. I think this means they'll miss the January 2026 Council - anyone have any insights into how this will be dealt with? Lumped into May Council? That's going to screw us

somebody on here suggested awhile back that a pretty compelling 2028 Democrat campaign promise would be "on day one I will deploy a WPA-scale army of forensic accountants across every square inch of the federal government" and I think about that every day
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

Damn straight. I don't want healing and closure. I want tribunals.
There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
