The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Cas Mudde spells out what has become largely the consensus among researchers: moving right on immigration will not weaken the far right nor strengthen social democracy. If your reaction is "but in Denmark" please at least familiarize yourself with Danish politics

i mean c’mon. the president’s best friend was the most notorious pedo in the country’s history who ran a massive child trafficking ring. every bit of circumstantial evidence we have says that trump was a participant. if this were a criminal trial we’d have enough evidence to compel a plea deal.

Was kennt ihr für Beispiele aus literarischen Texten, in denen auf wohlwollende, wertschätzende (und dabei nicht fetischisierende) Art über dicke, alte, kranke oder sonst von der gängigen Schönheitsnorm abweichende Körper geschrieben wird? Ich würde hier drunter gerne entsprechende Zitate sammeln.

Eine Sache, die mich bei meinen Lektüren zunehmend stört, und die mir vor 10 Jahren z.B. noch gar nicht so aufgefallen wäre, ist, wie extrem abwertend in so vielen (gerade auch neueren) Büchern immer noch oder auch wieder über Körper geschrieben wird, die irgendwie von der Norm abweichen.

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…

If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.
