In the midst of another December with our steam radiators on the fritz and feeling very excited to move into our new place with it's central heating and cooling.

If I owned this house, I would feel different about my steam heat, but these amazing old systems don't mesh well with landlordism.

Inventing a water bottle for kids and teens that comes with a self-install subdermal recall chip that, when activated, calls forth their water bottle from a distance of up to 50 miles like Thor summoning Mjölnir.

It's going to be a real hit this Christmas.

We celebrate the defeat of F1's beloved Dutch Baby with the consumption of this Dutch Baby.

So delighted that Lando is our champion this year!

You know it's December when I start bringing my sourdough starter into our bedroom at night bc our kitchen is too cold to leave her overnight if I want to mix my dough in the morning.

I feel like all I do is post about Smitten Kitchen recipes that I love, but also she deserves all the love.

Another classic from the SK archives that I make on the regular is this smashed chickpea salad. Delicious (even if you don't have any fresh herbs).

smashed chickpea salad
This salad is a forever site (and Deb lunch) favorite, just lightly crushed chickpeas with minced red onion, parsley, lemon juice and zest, enriched with olive oil.

Finally! A movie specifically for me.
Official poster for Mona Fastvold’s historical drama musical film THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE, starring Amanda Seyfried.

Follows Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shakers religious sect in the 18th century.

In select theaters Christmas Day.

Gonna do it again and watch Call the Midwife Christmas specials bc I love myself.
back on my earl grey hot cocoa bullshit:

bring milk+a splash of vanilla+a pinch of salt to a gentle simmer. remove from heat, drop in tea bag. allow to steep for 3-5 mins. remove bag, return to low heat. stir in a spoon of cocoa powder + the chocolate of your choice. whisk until melted. sip!
i made an earl grey hot cocoa and it was so delicious that i can't stop thinking about making another earl grey hot cocoa.

Today, the chive guy's roommate posted a photo of him taking the photo he posted on r/kitchenconfidential AND I learned that Philly cream cheese sent him some kind of influencer package.

The Internet is mostly bad, but the chive guy shenanigans have given me a lot of joy these last 54 days.

If you know someone at Baltimore Chef Shop, please tell them that I want 101-level technique classes in the "parent and me" offerings.

Like, these classes look fun, but I want foundations for the kids BEFORE we jump into making pasta, you know?

A reminder that the Paprika app rules.

It streamlines and catalogs recipes from the internet. You can rate ones you love, create shopping lists, scale portions, and more.

I've been using it for 5+ years and love having the digital equivalent of my granny's recipe box in my pocket at all times.
