Text: A House of Dynamite: Not content with putting her audience through the wringer once, in this film Katherine Bigelow does it three times. Superbly acted, brilliantly photographed, with sets in the best Ken Adam tradition, and written with just about the only sensible ending, this film grabbed me from the start and didn't get go. The basic theme is far from original - Dr Strangelove, Failsafe and On The Beach are perhaps the best known earlier versions - but this is a modern telling of the story with a modern structure and is very convincing too. All the more so because at no point in the whole film does anyone ask the obvious question: What if it isn't? All the characters react in the way they've been programmed. Inflexible process wins and when the process doesn't work people can't cope. Like all the earlier versions of the film, the warnings are there waiting for someone to hear them. I enjoyed it and will probably rewatch it. Recommended.
