Is a lot cheaper to report on what people said instead of what is actually happening, and the NYTimes increasingly just isn’t the sort place you can look to for that latter sort of reporting anymore
davidcorn.bsky.social
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

CDC has been a global leader in public health & played a key role in smallpox eradication. Health depts in red states & blue states rely on CDC expertise & support. The CDC EIS program trains the next generation of public health leaders & disease detectives.

They are burning it to the ground.
JAMA Health Forum Oct 9, 2025 by LO Gostin and P Lurie.
Abstract
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has long served as the cornerstone of the US
public health system, combining technical expertise, evidence-based policy recommendations, and high-quality health information. Yet, it is undergoing profound weakening by the Trump administration, including major funding cuts, the dismissal and resignation of experienced senior staff, and the erosion of its scientific independence. With tightening political control, public trust in
the CDC is diminishing. Undermining the agency’s reputation and capacities will reverberate for generations, making the nation less prepared for future health emergencies, including diseases of
pandemic potential. At this perilous moment, we document the current assault on the CDC that will inevitably have serious repercussion

It’s not the rabble who are post literate. We still read. It’s the elites who are too self important to learn about anything but their horoscopes.

people online are constantly saying shit like "the average person is now post-literate and returning to medieval peasant mindset" while neglecting the corollary, namely that our elite aristos are once again scrying for angels, summoning demons, distilling elixirs of eternal life, etc.

We've strategically placed mediocre hacks at the top of every political and business organization, let's see what happens next

Yes but everyone hates the Republicans too, and they still do things. Admittedly, them doing things makes people hate them more.

Way better questions. I wonder if anyone feels shame about that.

The random people who called into this C-SPAN session had better questions for Mike Johnson than most corporate media outlets

C-SPAN caller to Mike Johnson: "Hearing you say that 'everyone is smiling' in cities where troops have been rolled into feels dystopian and insane watching the response to it."

Any time I see these excuses, I offer the same challenge:

Defenders of slavery can arrange to have themselves sold to human traffickers. Their family can buy them back in 10 years or so, and THEN they can tell us about the positive aspects they found in slavery.

So far, no one's taken me up on it.

It comes from the phrase "Hey you, Goldilocks."

And now you'll never forget it again

I remember like 10 years ago when fascism was seen by most people for what it is: criminal behavior, and not “political opinions”.

they're beginning to realize there is no future for a movement in which the President can order states to invade each other. Nobody wants it and nothing good can possibly come of it

Yeah, my kids were like this and yet people frown on leashes. OK, you run after an energetic 2-yo boy who's been stuck in a car seat for hours. Oh well, it really is true that lively children make the most interesting adults.

There's a big group chat and I'm not in it. Thank God I'm not, because it seems to focus on pedophilia. I prefer being poor and unknown to child rape, thanks.

We had the majority * checks notes * last year?! Why didn't we do any of these things?!

It’s genuinely really bizarre how DOGE totally dominated the early months of the administration, was a complete and total failure by every single standard including its own, and is now just completely forgotten and passed over
besttrousers.bsky.social
It's so funny that people copy this, given that DOGE was basically the least effective domestic US policy initiative of all time.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
