I would've totally watched the full night of this at the time, except Newsnight (yawn) and Further Abroad (adore Meades now, way too young to understand then).
Particularly remember watching R&S in bed, lights off, and being blinded by the "slow strobe" effect accompanying Powdered Toast MAANN!

Worth remembering that when you’re humming the greatest Stone Roses songs - Resurrection, Fools Gold, I Wanna Be Adored - you are humming Mani’s bass melody. Not Squire, not Brown, but the bass line

Terrible news

I doubt P.S. would've lasted much longer if Mani hadn't joined for Vanishing Point - I still absolutely love that LP and the couple that followed it.

So here's my Mani live-in-concert story, one of the two times I saw him. Too long for just one post and to make it easier, just c/ping my FB post instead. A true dude, and the posts from people I know who met or interviewed him saying he was a prince of a guy make it clear we lost a good one.

Some thoughts on the sad demise of the bassist at the greatest gig I've ever been to (Primals, Glasgow, Gig On The Green 26/08/00, XTRMNTR set plus hits).

when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

Hiya if either @whenisbirths.bsky.social or @outonbluesix.bsky.social (or anyone else?) can help with this comedy query plus the one upthread of it, I'd be most grateful 🙂

But if not then fair enough - you're both great folk in any case and demonstrably two of the best posters on Bluesky 😊
Q2 : a quote from a Qu*stion T1me parody (similar to the KMKY/Enfield ones) : "many people wonder why society's broken down, how can we explain this awful situation; well of course it's because of the bl*cks" <boom-tssch> - any idea? Extremist satire then, all too relevant now sadly. Thanks both :)

PM for 45 days, during 10 of which government was suspended for national mourning of the Queen. Possibly the best paid public sector job in history, perks and so on considered.
Liz Truss due to her brief stint as PM receives a lifetime pension worth £100,000 annually and £1 million in 24 hour year round security.

Funded by the taxpayer to spend all her time talking down the UK.

“he will continue teaching” lmao, so the skeevy sex pest won’t damage the brand for future donors and other influential alums but he’ll still interact with current young people as an educator and mentor, really innovative way to lay the priorities and power relationships bare
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

My picks for replacement Goblin King are as follows:

Cate Blanchett
Ncuti Gatwa
Mike Faist
Anya Taylor-Joy
Lee Pace
Cast Janelle Monáe in the sequel.

If not, as long as they don't cast Jared Leto as goblin royalty. If they do, there will be blood in the scuppers.

Before its sequel (probably) comes out, why not watch 'Labyrinth' on the big screen again next January?

KARL: The president claims that Thanksgiving costs are down 25%. Does he know that's not true?

HASSETT: Well if you look at Walmart--

KARL: Wait a minute. I've gotta stop you. The Walmart package this year contains much less than the one last year. That's why the price is less.

I have a couple of idle qs for comedy scholar types (picked @whenisbirths.bsky.social and @outonbluesix.bsky.social, hope that's okay - BUY THEIR BOOKS everyone! 😊 )

First (easier) q - which ep of On The Hour has the Peanuts parody (with the ace punchline "YNFA, Charlie Brown")?

FB is a clickbait binfire but adding BSky non-IRL pals as Friends massively improves it. Current hobby : waiting for @davidstubbs.bsky.social to post totally justified demolitions of Dicky Hervaid, then going to town on the unfunny racist ableist sexist homophobe (RG not DS!) in the comments. Fun 😁

Shocked to hear of the death of Rachel Cooke at 56 — I didn’t even know she was ill. I always enjoyed reading her reviews and features: she brightened any page of the paper.

This sort of thing is going to happen a lot, and continue to be extremely triggering for the Fucked Over By Unbound posse.
Estate agent: "Sorry, your offer on the house you love has been declined."

Me: "Do you have any idea of how much more we'd need to have it accepted?"

Estate agent: "Well, uncannily, it's the precise sum of money that your ex-publishers owed you and took to hell with them when they imploded."
