That time the night tried to chop you in half, so you set it on fire.
Tokyo Skytree at Jukenbashi in the rain, partly reflected in the dark river. The clouds obscure the lighting in the middle of the tower, but the top gets back at them by painting the sky bright red. As one does.

While complaining how impossible it would be to adopt only a partial - PARTIAL- version of the lifestyle we’re forced to live. I lost my career to COVID. I developed a severe untreatable (on like 7 meds) migraine disorder to covid. I’m homebound and can’t stand in the shower. I was 37.

If you’re a person who cares about not disabling and harming other human beings, including children, you must know that nearly half of COVID cases are asymptomatic, that Covid spreads before symptoms begin, and that you have a responsibility not to harm others. That is simply humanity.

The idea that you can get sick ONCE and never go back to what your body and life were like before is terrifying.

Seeing people in masks and wearing one yourself can be a triggering reminder of this fact.

Which is why people viciously resist masking and are hostile to those who do.

Instead of recognizing “what a difficult reality we’re creating for anyone that’s been harmed by the virus- which could be me next- I better recognize the severity of this situation & participate in changing the culture NOW before it’s my turn”, ppl BLAME us for the situation being difficult

“Doing what you can to avoid spreading it to other people” is masking , until we have clean air - and in the meantime , you all need to be advocating for clean air, which none of you are showing the urgency around when you fail to mask.
40%+ of Covid cases are asymp and Covid disables people

Seeing a person in a respirator mask can be an instant reminder of your own fragility and mortality.

Or worse, a reminder of facts about your own health these last few years that threaten to disrupt your entire concept of your identity as Healthy-And-Safe-Forever-Because-I’m-A-Good-Person.

Heck, it’s taken me an intensive journey of tests, appointments, medication, and research for me to accept that maybe I’ve had at least one autoimmune disease my entire life life and COVID made it so much worse.

I’ve always viewed myself as terminally healthy. Suddenly I can’t get up stairs??

Moreover, it assumes that the speaker isn’t already sicker than they believe.

It’s not chronic illness, disability, or an autoimmune disease from COVID.

It’s just allergies. A persistent cough. Fatigue from overwork.

It’s not major damage to organs or systems from COVID. They’re not DISABLED.
transplantman.bsky.social
This kind of perspective assumes that the speaker’s state of health is perfect and immutable, innate.

Yes, you’ll never have cancer or need an organ transplant. Your health will be perfect until you die, and never deteriorate overnight.

Disability, age, and chronic illness can’t happen to YOU.

yeah, i think a commitment to public health obligates you to get vaccinated and, when you are sick, do what you can to avoid spreading that to other people. the demand that one mask at all times in public spaces is, i think, unreasonable.

People do not contain a boolean Has Mental Health Problems/Has No Mental Health Problems toggle. By treating "mental health problems" as a quality that is either present in a person or not, he implicitly fully forecloses the possibility of mental illness as a state that may be acquired/induced

super sad about Drew Struzan. He was excellent at capturing likeness but never made illustrations that felt stiff. He made whatever he illustrated look cooler. His use of light ❤️❤️. His collages never felt thrown together. Rest in peace. Thankyou for the inspiration. No one can touch you.

In case anyone was hoping to get a corrected passport after the @aclu.org Orr v. Trump order, don't get your hopes up. Despite my following the attestation instructions on the State department website, they just sent me another passport with an overridden gender marker 🙄😑

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

Also, every time I load it up, it jumpscares me with popups about whatever AI "features" it wants me to use now so it can get me to pay for them later.

It's like they forgot that some people have been using their video editing software to edit videos, and might still want to do that.
transplantman.bsky.social
I spend more time trying to find text, transitions, filters, etc. that I want to use for 10 seconds in a video than I do working on the video.

I want to spend my time actually editing a video in the video editor, and I can't do that if the program is just a huge sales pitch for AI subscriptions.
transplantman.bsky.social
Nearly all of the transitions, text, stickers, etc. that you'd actually want to use on videos is pay-to-use ON TOP OF the subscription you're already paying for. There's no way to filter them out so you just scroll endlessly looking for the 10 options you can use in a sea of identical paid options.
transplantman.bsky.social
I realized that the real reason I basically stopped doing any video editing is because Wondershare Filmora's video editing software I've been using (and paying for) for years has become a hollow, AI-riddled, disorganized, overpriced and over-subscriptioned slop generator, not a video editor.

I mean I guess this is proof that my efforts to make my garden a good environment for bugs and small wildlife is working, but the problem is that these suckers will COME IN YOUR HOUSE and that’s a big NO FUCKING THANK YOU from me.

It’s a miracle that I didn’t get stung by this thing while unpotting the plant it was in.

This is a juvenile mukade. I dumped the bucket FAR away in the woods and am now cleaning up my garden so it’s no longer Giant-Nightmare-Bug-friendly.

I cannot stress enough how bonkers it is that some of my only symptoms for bad reactions to certain foods are emotional and/or cognitive.

I have zero external allergic reactions and yet my emotional state and cognitive functioning feel like they're cannibalizing themselves. Wtf.

Two days ago I ate a ton of fresh ginger and suddenly it's like the world is ending in my head. I'm so tired but I can't sleep and I want to scream at everyone.

Adding salicylates / salicylic acid to the list of "things I might be very sensitive to, do not eat in large quantities."
