I read these novels as a teenager in the early 1990s and loved them, so I'm happy the TV adaptation is being made. When I first learned it was coming from the Daily Wire I was reminded that Dune was published by a company known for mechanical manuals. Sometimes good things come from the least likely
What they used to call genius they now call autism and it shows how people have always been entranced both by the spirit of difference and the belief that normies are essentially useless.
The scientific method was developed to become certain about what we can know and the enlightenment project was to ask people to think for themselves. The populace yearns for mystique and will make it up if it has to.
How many trillions of dollars have been invested into this technology so far?

was listening to a podcast where a China-resident analyst talked about visiting NYC and being stunned at how LOUD it was compared to Shanghai (not exactly a bucolic small town!)
It's weird - but now in Oslo, there's so many EVs that you notice the noise and the smell from individual ICE cars, and you realise how much we've been normalising it for ever. You can smell them half a street away.

And inside parking lots are just *quiet*.
It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.
This should probably be a YouTube ad campaign and not a post on BlueSky

With all the outrage around Kimmel I wish historians would speak up and remind us that the FCC was partially established to censor Father Coughlin and his support for fascism in the 1930s and in the lead up to the World War II. (From Wikipedia:)
In the land of cosplay, everything is theatre, including the inflicted cruelty
Leave it to America to come up with "ironic fascism". Culturally incapable of being serious about anything.
A man in Washington, DC, plays the Imperial March from Star Wars while following patrolling soldiers. One of the soldiers threatens to call the police.
I asked at Longos yesterday to open a lane for me because I resent how inhumanely stupid it is to expect people to bag their own groceries when no reasonable bagging area is provided. To their credit they did so.

Not to mention that writing words with a Sharpie onto a brass cylinder is not "an engraving".
Watching the cable news commentary on the bullet engravings is wild because none of these people seem to realize that the content of the engravings are indicative of extremely online meme brain rot

Wolf Hall beloved by historians and yet relegated to the PBS American Masterpiece market vs Game of Thrones actor in Game of Thrones version of 1066, doing what Shakespeare himself did, which not let the facts get in the way of a story. Bonus points for making an actor address it.
