My husband and I have been stopping in a new pizzeria, and it has been really good. Earlier today I mentioned that I wish they did an eggplant slice. Apparently the universe was listening, because when we went in this afternoon, sitting behind a handwritten paper sign, was half an eggplant parm pie.

periodically I'll see a backlash that goes a little too far or seems kinda unfair. i never say anything because i think we need to be kinda unhinged and zealous in our response to this shit. I'd take an honest-to-God crusade against this stuff over letting it proliferate.
We can do even more.

The US TikTok sale has been signed. The company will be controlled by a joint venture including Oracle, Silver Lake, Andreessen Horowitz, Abu Dhabi-based MGX. Adding a UAE company really makes it clear that this was never about national security concerns.

Scoop: TikTok signs deal for sale of U.S. unit after yearslong saga
The deal would end a yearslong saga to force TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance to sell the company's U.S. operation.

My high school had a glossary of slang in our yearbook compromised of words and phrases we'd invented and latched onto over our time at the school. Most of them were ultimately meaningless. I still occasionally reference them with friends from high school. It's literally just kids being kids.
the 6-7 phenomenon is in no way different from any other catchphrase that kids have yelled out at any point in the last hundred years, there's no daylight between that and when i was in high school, the year straight where every guy kept yelling "i'm rick james bitch"

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

It's not just social media. Looks like visitors to the US from Europe and other countries that are part of the visa waiver program will have to submit an enormous amount of data about themselves and their families, including DNA, if proposed new rules are accepted

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

Every ad for AI is asking a question that could be more quickly and effectively answered by (1) The Group Chat or (2) Reddit.
Every ad for AI is like

Person: FUCK!! I don’t know what to get my loved one for Christmas!!!!!! I love them so much!!! Tell me what to do, AI!!

AI: get sock

Title Card: You are literally the smartest person for doing this

The thing that gets me about this is that even if we wanted to make a positive AI ad, they never showcase AI being used to enhance someone’s day or improve their workflow. There’s no “it allows me to more easily do what I love.” It’s always presented as a failsafe for the dispassionate and incurious

I do not care what how much propaganda Silicon Valley tries to spread saying otherwise, a machine vomiting up slop is never ever going to be art to me the way an human being sitting and making something with their soul, knowledge and skill set is.

The thing to understand about "age verification" laws is that they are not just for kids

The only way to "stop kids from doing xyz online" using age-gating is to demand a government ID (or invasive biometric face scan) from EVERYONE.

This means associating your gov ID with EVERYTHING YOU DO ONLINE

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Okay last complaint about having to go into the office yesterday - every time I unplug my work laptop from the 2 docks that hold all the peripherals I use, something gets screwed up.

Today, it won't stop making the little noise for a peripheral disconnecting or connecting. Like, every 45 seconds.

Literally one day of waking up early enough to commute into the office and by 5pm my body is basically telling me it's going to take a nap whether I want it to or not.

I do not miss this.

(I also didn't miss standing on a freezing train platform for 30 minutes because the train was delayed).

I'm convinced a lot of websites have two layers of AI chatbot - the first one is the basic one that makes you chose from a list of options or otherwise very basic prompts, but I'm more and more often thinking that the next "customer service representative" it transfers you to is also an AI chatbot.
December 3, 2025 at 11:12 PM
I know buttons/prompts to have AI write stuff for you are all over basically every website now, but there was something about it popping up while I was doing my Christmas cards that really just got me. It's a fucking Christmas card. If you're not writing it yourself why the fuck are you sending it?

Is it important to stay engaged in the present and focus on the problems my community has right now? Yes.

Is there stuff from a dozen years ago that I'm gonna die mad about? Also yes.

I contain multitudes.
