I was looking at my mom’s Facebook account just now for reasons. Every third post was a sponsored post that seemed to claim that either diabetes or dementia was curable in hours with something that looked like turmeric.

Facebook is a machine for advertising to idiots, apparently.

Found this book about conservation and preservation of platinum and palladium prints from a mention on Mike Ware's site. I mention it only because there's an article about Irving Penn's process and it's insane. He produced six negatives to get a single print

They distributed pre-printed "MASS DEPORTATION NOW!" signs for the 2024 RNC, for Pete's sake!
to be fair it wasn’t difficult at all to see where this would go, you just had to take people at their word and think seriously about what they were proposing

Our history is our history. The good and the bad. We can’t just selectively embrace part of the American story, especially as we mark 250 years.

This sucks. I love going to Wegmans. They're the only place around here that stocks Vernors’ Ginger Ale. But I'll be damned if I'm going to patronize a business that uses this technology on its customers. Fuck Wegmans.

Not having any luck printing kallitypes today. First pair I screwed up the borders and missed part of the photos. Second round the sensitizer was diluted with some water I didn’t completely clear from the beaker. Fuck it, I put everything away. Prints will happen another day.

We've put so many kids in the concentration camp (that was supposedly just for hardened criminals and gang members) that we have to open a school in it. We have put. So many -kids-. In a concentration camp. That it needs a -school-.

My father is a polio survivor. I’ve seen firsthand the lifelong damage it inflicts.

Vaccines have all but eradicated these diseases. WE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM.

This administration’s devotion to dangerous ideology over science will only cause more Americans to suffer.
Breaking News: Rejecting decades of science, the chair of the federal panel that recommends vaccines for Americans said that shots against polio and measles — and perhaps all diseases — should be optional. The vaccines are credited with preventing disability and millions of deaths worldwide.
Vaccine Panel Chair Says Polio and Other Shots Should Be Optional, Rejecting Decades of Science
Dr. Kirk Milhoan, a pediatric cardiologist who leads the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, said a person’s right to refuse a vaccine outweighed concerns about illness or death from infectious diseases.

As angry as we might be at Democratic leaders, we are still not angry enough.
If you want to know what people mean when they say Democrats are "controlled opposition," rather than whipping votes against ICE funding, Hakeem Jeffries struck a deal with Republicans to allow Democrats to feign outrage at ICE while still funding the spending package.

I remember running out of things to read. We would go to the library regularly, but once I finished whatever I took out, I would scour the house for other things to read. I read newspapers. I read Fortune and Business Week, which my dad subscribed to. I read Ladies Home Journal, which mom got.

Laura and I bought this when we saw it in the store based solely on its name. She will occasionally look at me sternly and say “Sponch!” To which I reply in a singsong voice “Tortina!”, which is another cookie from the same company.

New Jersey advocates are angry that the outgoing governor vetoed immigrant protections.

“When the history of this time is written, it will show that many of our supposed leaders backed down, but that we the people never did,” says one advocate.
On His Way Out, New Jersey Governor Vetoes Legislation to Bar Local Assistance to ICE
Phil Murphy killed a bill that’d have codified restrictions on how sheriffs and police can partner with ICE. Some restrictions remain in place, for now, due to an attorney general directive.
