Sailors Exchange

Tired of your existing sailor and need a change of pace? You’ll probably have to find a different place to manage that; this place looks to be closed. Leica R4, Adox HR-50, Rodinal 1:50.

#BelieveInFilm
A storefront stands empty, windows covered with paper and plywood. Signs in the doors say “Sailors Exchange”, and a stencil on the window just to the right of the doors says “Used Marine Equipment”. Paper signs taped to the windows say “We’ve Moved”, and on top of one on the right door is a Stop Work Order. Two trash cans sit out front.

The Original Steaks

Home of the original pizza bread cheese steak. Which sounds like blasphemy and an abomination, but I’m told the cheesesteaks here are very good. One day I’ll try one rather than just shooting yet another photo of the place […]

[Original post on pixelfed.thereisnocat.com]
A low slung building with a flat roof has a fiberglass cow and several signs on the roof. The cow is at left. Next to it, a sign that just says “Steaks” (there appears to be some text below that, but it is not legible). Then a sign that says “Home of the Original Pizza Bread Cheese Steak Grab an Ice-Cold CocaCola”. At right, a sign says “The Original Steaks Est. Since Early `50s 21 Ocean Terrace”. Power lines fill the frame above the building and to its right. A car is parked on the other side of the street from the building.

This was my view from breakfast at La Perche in Hudson, NY. I would show you the absolutely insane French Toast I had for breakfast, but that photo didn’t come out. Pentax 17, Harman Phoenix II, ECN-2 development.

This is right across the street from my favorite dive bar and restaurant in St. Augustine, Planet Sarbez. I took a photo of it a few months earlier and the neon sign said “Today is Tattoo Day”. I texted it to my wife with the […]

Kohr’s

There are several of these on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights. None of them are open on a Monday morning. Smartflex 3445, Kodak Tri-X 320 TXP, Rodinal 1:50, Kodak Anastigmat No. 33 lens.

#BelieveInFilm
This place is a typographic nightmare. A sign on the roof says “Kohr’s The Original Since 1919” attached to a two scoop ice cream cone. The face of the building facing the boardwalk says the following: “Coca Cola enjoy summer Frozen Custard and Ice Cream Kohr’s The Original Since 1919 P J’s Place Seaside Heights NJ Coca Cola enjoy summer Kohr’s The Original Since 1919 Kohr’s The Original Since 1919 Coca Cola Coca Cola.” The side of the building is similarly festooned, but you really don’t want me to write all that crap down here.
