Will Arnett was on Conan and told a story about how Conan dealt with the death of his parents by accusing Jason Bateman of killing them. It’s so funny.

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

The Supreme Court, Presidency, Senate and two party system are all quite anti-democratic institutions as presently constructed.

Our institutions are not only incapable of preventing tyranny—they’re currently enabling it.

When democracy returns, we need to reform our political system.

New York City went 12 days without a murder in November / December. That's tied for the longest stretch in history, according to the NYPD. As someone who was here when there were 6+ murders per day in this town, it continues to amaze me how safe the place is.

If you've ever been to a naturalization ceremony, you know they're filled with people whose palpable love of this country is twenty times stronger than the pinched "patriotism" of any native-born MAGA chud.

Just unspeakable assholery.

A very worthwhile read. If we actually applied the "common sense" that politicians love to tout, pragmatic reforms like a government-run payment system would be on the table. But imagine the uproar if Dems pitched this. No way do they have the stomach for that fight.

Agreed, though if Alito/Thomas retire next year, the GOP will push the media to question Dems roughly about expansion when “the issue resolved itself” since they’ll push the narrative that any new Trump appointees will act with more restraint and Dems are the radicals, so they will chicken out.
we have to make supreme court expansion a 2028 nominee litmus test, we have to get every candidate on the record about what their plan is to rein in this rogue court of unaccountable ideologues

This really is grotesque: they went through years-long citizenship processes and are now being denied simply because if the country they are from. It’s formalized bigotry.

The Dems should make a point of applying the pitchforks to crypto bros, the private equity crooks, Big Pharma and the insurance companies.
Great piece on the failure of centrist governments in the UK, France, and Germany to give voters anything to actually vote for and their fueling of the far-right by elevating its message, and the contrast that Spain offers.

There’s no way this guy is serious, right? I’ve stayed in plenty of hotel rooms in NY before I moved here and never did I have as much space as he has. He has no concept of cost in Midtown. The price is high, but he didn’t pick a hotel in a cheaper area so that’s how it goes!
This is actually pretty spacious for NYC!

Yes, Mr. Madison, I get your concerns about fiendish foreign princes and such, but here's the thing: in the year 2026 the literal Pope will be eligible to run for POTUS while the mayor of New York City is not. Maybe go back to the drawing board and give that one another go. Not your best work.
