I've seen people outside the US complaining the residents of the US are doing nothing. That perception is because the media largely isn't covering what's happening around the country. Not that it's a comfort to the rest of the world, but things ARE happening. Here's a thread about what I can confirm

A #Roman figurine of a dog, shown lying down with its back legs curled underneath, looking at something behind it. Dogs feature quite prominently in Roman everyday art, associated with loyalty & healing, & valued for their companionship (just like today!) 🐶 🏺 #AncientBlueSky #Archaeology

For #MosaicMonday, a rather lovely peacock made using blue and green glass tesserae to simulate iridescent plumage. Found in Fenchurch Street, London in 1858 and now in the British Museum.

Here, in all its finger-shredding, eye-gouging, blood-soaked, assassin-screaming, enraged-emperor glory, is the final day of the emperor Domitian!

No terrified slave boys were terrified in the making of this terror

An acting troupe and their aulos player are our pick this #MosaicMonday. This panel comes from the House of the Tragic Poet, Pompeii and is held by the MAN Napoli. The sense of festivity is a delight!

#AncientRome
The panel depicts seven figures who appear to be getting ready for a play. One wears a theatrical mask pushed up onto their crown, one plays the aulos, while another figure sits before a tray of masks - this figure may be a choregos. The touches of light blue in the borders adds a sense of lightness to the scene.

As cold blustery winds herald an incoming storm to Southern California, I’m bundled up like this little bronze Silenos figurine (we share the same hairstyle, in fact). Brrr! 🥶

Bronze, 1st c. CE. #BritishMuseum #Ancientbluesky 🏺
Small bronze figurine of a somewhat dwarf-like Silenos, the bald, bearded elderly companion of the god Dionysos-Bacchus. He’s tightly wrapped up in his himation (cloak), his hands pulling the garment tight around his chest. He wears an ivy wreath around his head and is barefoot.

In which Nero dies and then everyone spends a year in total panic, followed by pretending that whatever happened next is exactly what everyone had intended all along. Politics then, basically.

Stevens: There’s $1.3 trillion of credit card debt. There are people putting grocery bills on credit cards and then paying interest on them. We are in an affordability crisis. Coffee is up 20%, beef is up 16%, bacon is up over 10%. And now we’re going to see health care costs skyrocket.
