I just watched a 1933 film on HBO Max and it showed me dozens more films like it, all pre-1950.

No other studio-owned streaming service platforms its library this effectively.

I worry about TCM, but Netflix better not ruin HBO Max, either. We need mainstream platforms for classic film. #FilmSky

La Lune à un mètre (The Astronomer's Dream, 1898, dir. Georges Méliès) 🎥

A melancholy, effectively creepy three minutes in which the moon eats people.

BACK TO BASICS: Ukraine was invaded by Russia. Russia is the bad guy, the aggressor and should not be rewarded. Ukraine did not have to, but they gave up their nukes, we should honor that as a nation. In the beginning everyone was sure Ukraine would fall. It hasn’t. We need Ukraine as a strong ally.

reprints or reruns of old movies is unironically a good way to help theaters, which are revenue starved
Hollywood: “hey you liked this thing from 20 years ago, how would you like to see that same thing again?”
Me: “you mean like a sequel?”
Hollywood: “no, like the same thing.”
Me: “oh. Like a reboot I guess?”
Hollywood: “no. The exact same thing. [sobbing] Please give us your money.”

As someone who hates going to the movies and would choose to see every film from the couch if possible, that man is delusional if he thinks those movies would have been as big on Netflix.

Oh my stars.
Frankenstein (2025) is amazing.
I'm... in awe.
This was fantastic, this is why I love movies. An adaptation of my favorite book. At a loss for words.

Who else loved this one? Let's share some of that.
