Department of Defense Law of War Manual, Sec. 18.3.2.1 states the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders.

What’s its key example? Wait for it . . . It’s "orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

A Blessed First Sunday of Advent!

Let us await the coming of our Lord with great anticipation, knowing that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it!

My father, Chuck Moss, passed away this week. He was a fascinating man, and our relationship was complicated, but I owe so much to him. He taught me that I could learn to do anything. obituaries.virginiacremate.com/obituaries/c...

I started my presentation at #aarsbl2025 with a land acknowledgement. I think this is a really important practice and would commend it to you all for 2026.

My first paper presented at #AARSBL25 went well. It was a wild day, though. All AI all day. The rooms were all packed.

The "THAT Camp" on AI at #aarsbl25 is going very well: lots of cool ideas and perspectives in the room.

President Zelenskyy came to the White House, looking for help from his longstanding ally.

He was ambushed, humiliated and berated for not being grateful enough.

Prince Bone Saw bin 9/11 came to the White House, for the first time since he ordered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

He was revered.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

New fountain pen day! This is a Pelikan Souveran M400 in red and black. I generally dislike plastic-bodied pens, but I tried the m200 and found the nib and balance so incredible I snapped up this gently-used M400 on a substantial discount. It's EF and I would have preferred F but it's still awesome.

This is abhorrent, gratuitous cruelty. Anyone who claims to follow Jesus Christ should always be quick to feed the hungry. Deliberate starvation is Satan’s work. Lord, have mercy on our nation. ⚓️
