He's now telling me how easy it is to disprove these videos and I have pointed out the few that I've had to disprove with him (one of a tank in downtown Portland, one of "churches being attacked" that was a Patriot Prayer riot) and he is saying that we will just have to disagree about what's real
MAGA friend, on video deepfakes: I love them, they're going to teach everyone to think more critically about what they see

Me: No, it's going to make people believe whatever they think is true and not think critically at all

Him: Agree to disagree

Me: [Head explodes]

“Can you put two and two together about what’s going on here??”

@saikatforcongress.bsky.social connects the dots for the panel
I guess it's true that left-wing violence is a myth because I think we'd be in a very different situation today if it weren't.
Finally..."It's just a relic, no one really cares. I guess I could see how I might feel differently though."
I asked MAGA friend about the White House tear-down. At first he denied knowing what I was talking about. "Oh, the renovations?" he finally said. "That's no big deal." I asked how it'd play if Biden had done it. Silence.
Yep, but they're draining the swamp etc 🙃

Why does everyone keep calling it “The Epstein Ballroom?” Please stop repeating “The Epstein Ballroom” because it is not called “The Epstein Ballroom!” Don’t tell the news that it’s called “The Epstein Ballroom” and please don’t repost this!!!!!
Yet another day where I feel like I'm losing my damn mind when I look at the news. How are any of us functioning?

Exactly this part of the White House is gone.

Astronaut Ronald McNair would have been 75 today.

He died in 1986 when the space shuttle Challenger exploded.
Do yourself a favor and take a minute to watch this animated short about 9yo Ronald McNair visiting his home town’s segregated library. It was produced by Story Corps and narrated by McNair's older brother Carl.

Near the end, Carl talks about the impact that "Star Trek" had on his brother. 🧪 🔭

this is an absolutely wild use of passive voice, where you have to get through layers of narrative to figure out an ICE agent smashed a car window with his gun like an idiot, which went off and shot two people
MAGA friend shared with me Katie Daviscourt's latest as well as some other video claiming "many arrests" last night at Portland ICE and that the tear gas was deployed due to "munitions fired at the building.' I could only find three arrests and they sounded like minor inter-protestor conflicts.
Rumor's going around that ICE deployed gas/smoke yesterday afternoon and evening so that Nick Sortor etc could get good videos. Makes sense.

The reason I went over to 2nd and Ash :-)
Just got home. I was on my bike and trying to avoid the actual march but got stuck waiting for it at 2nd and ash. Took over half an hour.
saw crowd in portland and my brain just shut down when I tried counting. 50k just downtown maybe? tens of thousands for sure. turnout at no kings in june might have been the biggest action in portland in decades but this one is bigger several times over

“Since the bicycle makes little demand on material or energy resources, contributes little to pollution, makes a positive contribution to health and causes little death or injury, it can be regarded as the most benevolent of machines.” Here’s the article by @carltonreid.com HT @sciam.bsky.social
