I get so aggravated when I hear my European friends talk about what life is like living in Europe.

Not because of what they say, because we could have the same thing if the entire purpose of our lives here in the US wasn’t just to provide more shareholder value. Gotta increase that GDP by 1% more.

Can’t pay for healthcare? Ok, just die.
Can’t afford college? Don’t go.
Can’t pay $500K for a “starter” house? Give your entire salary to a slumlord.

The older I get, the more I feel that the US is fundamentally incompatible with the world I want to live in

For what exactly? What do we have so much of that no other country does? We’re a school shooter’s paradise, that much is true.

Socially, we’re regressing towards the 1950’s and like four billionaires own and control everything we see or do. Is that great?

Can you imagine not having to bankrupt yourself if you get sick?

I pay several hundred bucks for health insurance every month, and if I wasn’t doing that, my recent hospital visit and subsequent tests would’ve cost nearly $10,000 out of my own pocket.

Man.

I reallyyyy wish I lived in either Canada or an EU country. I know every country has its problems and that nowhere is perfect, but it just seems like the quality of life in actual advanced nations is so much higher than here in the US, which just pretends to be an advanced nation.

I will still be limited to 4GB of RAM and some flavor of Intel Celeron like the HP has, but since the Acer machines have an m.2 slot inside, I’d be able to do a lot more with it.

Everything I do on the HP pretty much has to be through web apps as not to fill up the storage completely.

I have an HP Chromebook 11 G4 EE with AntiX 23.2 installed, but the 14GB eMMC storage has been extremely limiting on what I can do with it.

Been thinking about getting an Acer C720 or C740 Chromebook and when I remove ChromeOS, installing Linux Mint XFCE instead. Storage on the Acers is upgradable

They seem to have significantly cleaned up their act and aren’t banning ABDL accounts anymore. I actually remade an account there a couple months ago and it’s been fine so far.

Yesterday I had my first gallbladder attack since the one in August that put me in the hospital.

It wasn’t that bad, but definitely discouraging since I’ve been eating a lot better.

This makes 10 attacks since September 2024.

Could be, but a lot of that could be the hard drive being slow rather than the rest of the PC being bad :o

I dunno, I tend to run stuff until it literally fails. I have a laptop from 2014 that I still use pretty regularly. I tossed the hard drive for an SSD about five years ago and it runs nice
