High latitude #aurora chasers get a bit of a show due to the fast solar wind and embedded stealthy #solarstorm this week. Amateur #radio operators & #GPS users could see more noisy signals too. Learn the details in the new #SpaceWeatherWoman forecast: patreon.com/posts/139843...

Space Weather has picks up in a big way! Region 4246 launches 4 solar storms towards Earth. Region 4248 and 4250 are entering the same hot longitudes and are becoming more active. Expect big flares, HF radio blackouts and & storm launches to continue! Strong Earth-impacts peak October 15-17.

This is just mesmerizing! The way the #aurora undulates looks almost like an undersea creature swimming. Hard to believe it's this bright on an iPhone. Great capture. Thanks for reporting!

If you take long exposures, your cell phone camera might be able to pick up the colors that are too dim for your eyes to see. Thanks for reporting!

Aurora borealis for some tonight at Chicago -- I don't see it but others do with cameras. Bz is below -10 pushing -20 at times

One of the best Aurora shows I’ve seen. Legit just stopped and watched it dance. Big camera is shooting. This is just iPhone again.
Trees in foreground with lots of green and pink Aurora behind

This is an auroral phenomenon known as a "sub-auroral" arc or "STEVE." It is occurring because there is an ongoing #solarstorm happening right now. Enjoy the show, but don't trust your GPS navigation signal while under these displays. They can cause it to jump around!

Smoke or Aurora? NW Wyoming

https://www.ufofeed.com/151660/smoke-or-aurora-nw-wyoming/

Just took this photo at 12:15am NW Wyoming saw it at 296 degrees NW. Is this just smoke illuminated somehow? There is no light pollution this direction at all but there also isn’t any aurora borealis reports …

The stealthy #solarstorm has passed. Now the interaction region ahead of the fast solar wind has arrived! This "bow wave" of sorts has brought us #aurora as far south as Kansas and Oklahoma tonight. Shows are waning slowly, but New Zealand and Tasmania might still get a chance to catch some views!

The stealthy #solarstorm has arrived and it is beginning to really look good for #aurora shows, despite being pretty slow. Aurora chasers in the Western and those down under should get some decent periodic brightenings through morning as substorms ramp up!

Auroras start at about 9 min.
I loved last pic explainer on satellite locations w/tiny view top left: Red is Earth facing from NOAA, green is STERO-A, and the blue is from Solar Orbiter (ESA).

Well, it’s barely out in Maine right now… pretty low glow on the northern horizon. We may see a substorm push this higher with some tall pillars, so let’s keep an eye on it. Anyone below the 45th parallel is going to have a hard time seeing much at the present moment.

#aurora but with some cloud cover. #uist
In a night sky mostly clouded, fluorescent green light below and a hint of pink behind the clouds. Astonishing strength of fluorescent green light through the clouds. This with the next picture shows the width of the aurora from north to northeast. Looking northeast.
