I am a sci-fi/fantasy writer who wrote most of The Ryozae Alliance, a 9-book epic, by hand. I'm now working to bring it to life. 90s-era characters and settings, alien dinosaurs, alien worlds, war, and undercurrents of magic await. Follow along and support the Alliance! linktr.ee/taladayarts
Black alien tentacles descend from the top of a black to blue star-filled gradient. A white orb rests at the end of one tentacle. A primal logo in the lower left corner is echoed in the background, swirling across the starscape. Bold cursive text reads: The Ryozae Alliance. A tale of fellowship, dinosaurs, aliens, and war. A sci-fi series by Alysa Taladay. taladayarts.wordpress.com

Jordy created a website where visitors can contribute $35 to “provide an inflatable costume for a True American.™”

He initially hoped to collect enough to buy a couple dozen suits.

But as he put it -- “This whole thing has blown up a lot.”

I had not considered this. 🤣
My friends to me after I show them bsky and all they see are Thomas and Alf:
Max and Roxanne from The Goofy Movie as drawn by Instagram user eboni in a dirty room with Max saying “damn bitch you live like this?”
I started with "following" and shook things up with a few random interest feeds like "fish," "booksky," and "paleoart." I occasionally rotate my interest feeds or the order of my feeds to change the way I experience Bluesky and find new people to follow. :)
PSA: If you're a new Bluesky user - your default feed is "Discover." It tries to guess what you like, but since it doesn't know you well yet - it can display what seems like random nonsense. You can remove it, and add any other feed to your liking from the "Feeds" options in the menu on the left.

Them: Bluesky is a liberal monoculture.

Bluesky liberals:

Hi hi #PortfolioDay! 🎨✨

I'm Requinoesis, someone who loves the ocean! I'm dedicated to creating a new insight into the imagery of sharks under pastel colors! 🌊🦈✨

You can see more of my art stuff here, if you want: linktr.ee/requinoesis
Roberto, the great hammerhead shark, explores the ruins of an ancient museum destroyed by Typhon's storm. He holds a flashlight and carries a mysterious human spirit in his backpack, who accompanies him in silence.

The place, shrouded by the phenomenon called “cursed salt mist”, is covered in a permanent fog. Salt crystals sprout everywhere and a supernatural presence seem to lurk among the rubble.

The spirit that accompanies Roberto is liquid and translucent. Sometimes little tropical fish of extinct species float around him, as if attracted by his presence.

The museum's architecture is full of organic curves and ornate tiles. Decorated columns show a crab with a human face holding the moon between its pincers, an ancient symbol of a historical figure revered by the sharkfolk. A cozy little shark bistro nestled among lots of plants. A little harbor village of Gourdlets among a cozy grove of trees, carrying out various cooperative activities related to fishing and recreation, there are little colorful fish and a shark swimming peacefully in the sea. An allegory of the "Jaws" movie poster that caused damage and negative stereotypes to the image of sharks that persist to this day (I'm glad it's slowly changing, but it's still too slow to be considered forgivable). Now with a reversal of roles, with the human victim replaced by a simple wild shark and the terrible stereotyped shark replaced by a monstrous human skull seeming to want to devour the shark (this is the reality, we kill thousands of sharks every year, many of them killed for irrational reasons, who is the real cruel killer?)

the thing is, all that knock off amazon operator gear you bought to look tough and scary just looks fucking silly when you are being gyrated at by someone wearing an inflatable frog costume and being mooned by a naked bagpiper on a unicycle, it just doesn’t work, the self image cannot hold
It should not be understated how much clever shit like this actually annihilates morale at places like ICE/CBP.

Getting made fun of like this on national television while people laugh at you is.. well, you may call it victory wine, but it ain't.
I love this so much. Funny, sweet, hopeful, and kind of bad-ass.

It just occurred to me that not only is the former map pocket in my car nearly useless for maps, it's also a drink holder that doesn't hold drinks (most of the time). My first 2 cars could do both and still function as black holes for everything else. Utterly useless! 🤣
My dream of a mini castle, which is ridiculous and not at all useful, and an inflatable dragon for the roof.

The curse is broken and I get both my dream and my new curse: state property taxes. 🤣
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖
I also did this a) because it was funny and I'm also mad that we're still fighting the bastards in 2025, and b) **I don't want it in the background of any photos I take in front of the bookshelf.**
Now with bonus AI data scraping for added "public safety!"
🤔

still a banger, 15 years later.

[August 3rd, 1980] Actors' strike due to unsatisfactory salary negotiations and lack of residuals from cable, satellite, and pay TV companies is causing production delays and public outrage. The strike affects 45,000 actors, with only a small percentage earning over $10,000 annually.

One of the terrible things about the conservative elites’ attacks on higher education is that they are giving their constituents the impression that the universe isn’t big, complicated, and fascinating — that it really does take this many people to work out how even a small fraction of it works
How come nobody told me about this bird? So cool! And now I'm lost in a rabbit hole of spur-winged birds no one ever talks about. ...Horned screamers are wild af.

ICYMI Haters false flagged pages/profiles/groups they didn't like, but hate pages and content would often be ignored in spite of multiple persistent flags for inappropriate content and conduct. And that was during the Biden administration.
They also took down a prominent page a few years back that used to alert members of the LGBTQIA+ community about their content shared in hate groups. The site actually went on a bit of a rampage at that time, taking down queer and ally pages for "impersonation" while leaving hate groups standing.
"The DOJ will continue engaging tech companies to *eliminate platforms* . . ."

This is your daily reminder Bondi specifically, and MAGA generally, spent the last 4 years accusing the Biden admin of jawboning tech companies to take down content in violation of the 1A.
I finally found the perfect sticker so I can put this book on my shelf without that thrice-accursed crooked symbol staring back at me. 🤣 the cat eating their stupid mark is pure poetry to me.
a book titled the rise and fall of the third reich, by william l shirer. the swastika has been replaced with a sticker of a cat eating a swastika, which says freya hates racists. the book is sitting next to titles such as: i was a doctor in auschwitz, and shindler's list
These are so cool! ❤️
Oh hey, it’s #PortfolioDay … again.

Major news outlets are standing together and refusing to sign. ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News have all rejected a new Pentagon policy that would impose unprecedented restrictions on news gathering.
I wonder if you can resin-fill plastic cracks.... About to try jewelry glue.
Today's concerns include the front plate of a vintage CD player, the steamer knob off my espresso machine, and the handle to a vintage percolator. I'd pay for 3D printed replacements. Because we outta have the right to do that.
Is it such a big ask that a few of the folks out there mass producing 3D printed dragons also maybe do custom order parts for vintage appliances? Like, folks with scanner capabilities, we send you broken plastics, and you send back cool colored replacements?
