Oh that's really interesting that they're referred to as squash most of the time (I know pumpkins are also squash but it implies it's a squash that isn't a pumpkin lol)

I made a pie out of them last year that was the best 'pumpkin' pie I've ever had.

It can always be both.

I have some that are extremely green to the point I'm not sure they'll develop the right flavors off the vine. Particularly the one shaped like a bell pepper lol

Did you know that if you have to pick your winter squash before it's ripe, you can treat it like summer squash? I just sautéed one of my hopelessly under ripe black futsu squash. Basically like a mild flavored zucchini with a much better texture. Tasty.
My squash that I grew on the left and 2 ripe ones on the right that I bought from a farm yesterday. Quickly sautéed under ripe black futsu squash slices on a plate with the raw ones behind it.

And the Procreate process for both. First took 15 minutes and the second took 1 hour and 15 minutes.

A nice warm fall day in the neighborhood, but unfortunately that also means swarms of blue aphids. They got in my eyes.
A farm viewed across a vacant field with fall colors on the trees and mountains in the background in late evening lighting. A large swarm of blue aphids noticeable in the setting sun outside of someone's fenced yard.

#Paleoctober2025 day 7 paleoart sketch of the extinct conifer Sequoites.

#Paleoctober #Paleoart #Sequoites #Enantiornithes
The genus existed until the Miocene, but I chose the Late Cretaceous Sequoites dakotensis so I could include an enantiornithine bird. The juvenile avialan is begging for food from an unseen parent perched atop the conifer branch with a cone and speculative leaves below it. The scene is overcast with fine rain.

He almost didn't want to cooperate with me for that picture either lol. He'd already smelled the clover but I wasn't fast enough.

The cats had a really great early fall walk today.
Ginger rolling around in the grass and smiling with one of her fangs showing. Mew rolling around in the grass in pure joy, fur very poofy. Ginger and Zuko standing next to one another eating grass with their tails curled toward one another and touching. Zuko and a clover flower.
