Generally quiet, interested in too many things. This weekend is when I’ll finally catch up. No, really.

"Animated Bokeh" has been on my whiteboard for a long time, and this is the result.

I thought it would just be for cheesy novelty effects, but it also does lightfield manipulation that was cooler than I expected.

Daily trauma recovery looks like managing our time & money; talking back to cognitive distortions w/ patience & realism; taking time to stretch, move, rest, & care for our body; feeding & hydrating ourselves appropriately; & responding to "symptoms" w/ care & grace, not judgment.

Would you be warmer if you did it as a run? 😉

(Sending you warm thoughts and hopes for many windbreaks)
Like a dummy, I agreed to go to a friend’s house for brunch tomorrow.

When it will be below zero degrees.

Heh.

Pray for me.
I’ll be walking 8 or 9 blocks. 😬

Adventure!

This library sounds amazing - I didn't even know we had such a gem right here in Cambridge.

Cooperation Jackson is absolutely the right home for it. Help them relocate the books if you can!
an elder in Boston spent his life building a one-of-a-kind radical library, but he's aging and it needs a new home. Cooperation Jackson has agreed to take it, but they need help shipping it all there.

We have sent out almost 475,000 whistles for free, and our spreadsheet crew just told me that 80% of them are going out within 4 days of the request being made.

7% go out the same day.

98% within a week from this team of entirely volunteers who are just big fuckin' mad & want to help.

I post my bad art in the hopes that it inspires others to make (and please post!) their own. I don't care how bad mine is, if there is something I like about what I made it is a success
Not just because it’s how you get better but bad art is good for the soul to create

Folks outside SF/F don't know that Asimov was a sexual harasser because while he was alive fandom thought it was cute (up to and including Asimov being invited to give a lecture on "The Power of Positive Posterior Pinching" at Worldcon, which he, wisely, declined).

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Just to throw this in at the end: if you can afford a donation, the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund is helping detainees post bond and get them out of custody ASAP. A worthy cause.
It cost me $66.70 to get this transcript. Money well spent. I don't need anyone to reimburse me.

But, if you got something out of this transcript, please consider making a $66.70 donation, or even $6.67, to the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund, which posts bond for immigration detainees.

deleting now! there are too many apps these days anyway!
INBOX: @sbworkersunited.org is escalating its rolling strike by calling on supporters to delete the firm's popular app off their phones until it agrees to a contract. It's an ambitious move that will test the depth of popular support, given how much value users have tied up there in rewards points.

This is the same absolute incomprehension of human connection and emotional needs that leads to techbros thinking you want AI to helpfully summarize an email from your lover, or that a sex doll is going to replace finding somebody to hang out and watch Centaurworld with on Saturday evening.

No one will ever succeed in convincing me that this comes from any kind of concern about reducing other human beings' pain. It's about reducing your down time from work, and/or making you "more effective" (substitute "useful to your boss"). All I can say, as gently as possible, is: "Fuck that shit."
AI “deadbots” aim to replace the dead—and raise plenty of ethical issues, Charley Burlock argues. “Perhaps the biggest question is how such a product might shift our experience of personal grief and collective memory.”
