The hardest years, the darkest years, the roarin' years, the fallen years
These should not be forgotten years
The hardest years, the wildest years, the desperate and divided years
We will remember
These should not be forgotten years

We are shattered and grieving the loss of our brother Rob. For now there are no words but there will always be songs. Love Always from Jim, Martin & Pete.

"TV ads not only reach low-interest voters, but also teach them useful, accurate, issue information. So for a candidate to get his message across to all the voters, he cannot simply rely on free TV news time; he must buy costly TV ad time. The implications for campaign finance are obvious."

This is why I think this country is worth fighting for.
Yesterday, I drove refugees that had been shipped off to Texas all the way back home to St. Paul

Seeing them reunite with their families reminded me this is their home.

So keep sending them to Texas. I’ll keep driving ‘em back and introducing them to Bucc-ee’s and KC barbecue along the way.

It is disgraceful for a Catholic bishop simply to accept uncritically this bad faith propaganda intended to demonize immigrants while undermining help for the hungry and justifying state-sponsored, lawless brutality.

Whistleblowers just shared a memo showing DHS instructing ICE to force their way into peoples' houses without a proper warrant. Why is this not on all the networks right now? This is a criminal conspiracy to violate rights under color of law.

Remarkable. Lucid. Needed.

@mark-carney.bsky.social names the moment, leans heavily on the wisdom of Thucydides and Havel. The American Century firmly is over.

23-year professor in the humanities here, but even my math skills are adequate to inform you confidently this fiftysomething is below average.

The average 50-something American is now worth $1.4 million
The older you are, the higher your net worth: That's what the data tells us. Financial experts cite three big reasons. One of them is time.

The bus is the nation. The driver is Trump. The passengers who cannot decide how to intervene and stop this are institutions meant to curb the abuse of power befuddled by fear and indecision.

The metaphor is too on the nose. This is America in 2026 in one bonkers incident. Glad everyone is safe.
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

Firmly at this point in US history as we look ahead to the semiquincentennial, I prefer to celebrate King Day rather than Presieents Day.

This is actually important: Trump (as far as anyone can tell) doesn't believe that *anything* is on the level. He doesn't as much oppose democracy and the rule of law as believe that they've always been a fairy tale that only foolish dupes fall for.
Norwegian PM Støre says Trump repeatedly raises—complains about, pleads for, and demands—the Nobel Peace Prize every time they meet. Støre gives same answer each time: decision is made independently by Norwegian Nobel Committee, with no role for Norwegian gov—a concept Trump appears unable to grasp.

I'm offended by the Sunday talk programs @meetthepress.com @abc.com @cnn.com because I depend so much on news.

To the extent they plaform the Trump Admin for "news value" the Sunday shows are performative spaces for authoritarians and hucksters. There is no news value there at all.
